What EXACTLY are you trying to do??

If you are expecting to magically open numerous pay tv packages for free then you are going to be disappointed. Things dont happen like that even with the wonderful linux based Dreamboxes.

For FTA channels the receiver does not need a smartcard.

For subscription channels, it may well do.

At this point I strongly recommend you get a 15 case of lager , or whatever floates your boat, and get comfy in front of the screen. Spend the next week reading the forums. There's a lot of infomation available and its mostly fact.

If you decide to post again on the forum please expand in detail what you are trying to achieve.

Which satellite(s) you are looking at.
What channels do you want to watch.
What software you have on your Dreambox.
This would help for a start.

The Dreambox is not a magic box, it will not decrypt Sly UK without access to a valid subscription card. Simple as. You've got no chance of getting anything out of the box this side of the new year. If you're interested in learning about the Dreambox, set aside 6 weeks to get going.

Yup I have to agree with B16. You are trying to run before you can crawl. You do not take a DB out of a box and get free pay channels on it - if it was that easy we would all be doing it and Id be flogging them at a hundred quid a pop with a couple of months subs on them. :D

If you want to give your folks Sky then buy them a proper subscription!

We do not discuss c a b l e here and any further mention will cause a warning but needless to say the avenue of pleasure that has been experienced by the VM people is closing rapidly as Nag 3 is introduced. People wish to use a Dreambox for it's versatility and multi-satellite potential something a skybox is designed not to do, however subscriptions are still required unless you use cardsharing
