Hi

I'm having trouble setting up a maplin sd fortec star motorised system.

What ive done so far.

T&K bracket mounted.
Pole- bang on 90 degrees
Motor mounted- latitutude setting 53 (correct for my area- Dublin Ireland)

Now ive tried all the advice, point south, send dish to thor using usals.

Moved dish around, getting nothing.

The only things I can think of is in the manual of the motor diseqc 1.2 h-h, it tells me to set my declination angle (dish bracket angle to 22.4) but the lowest setting on the dish bracket is 30 then it goes up to 60. So basicly I can't set below 30.

Also Could it be a thing that the motor is not actually compatible with usals.

Any help would be grately appriciated.

p.s my skew is at 0. As I was told to do for a motorized dish.

Have you looked on the other side of the bracket?

Many Dishes have two different scales to allow greater flexibility, depending upon which way up the rear dish bracket is fitted.

The Dish face should look almost vertical, as SM says.

I don't think there is the remotest chance that your Motor is not USALS compatible.

I cant get the dish face vertical because its at the lowest angle on the bracket already and it still points up, because the motor stem is at an angle.

It sounds like you have affixed the Dish bracket upside down (which also explains the incorrect scale).

If you remove the bracket from the back of the Dish and re-fix it t'other way up, you should not only be looking at the correct Elevation scale, but also be able to get the Dish face vertical for an initial Elevation setting of around 22-23 deg.

Did you look carefully at that bracket to check if there is indeed another scale on the other side ?

Also if you could post up a picture, be easier to identify the problem.

Ok Update.

After looking at the photos I went back up to have a look. And as the photo showed, there was more room to face the dish vertical. Just no reading on the bracket, thats where I got confussed. Its probably at about 23 now. Another thing I noticed.

I have one of those shitty lnbs- sfkuvn.

Am I right in saying I need to turn that to about 4 o clock for a 0 skew.

Cheers guys

Yes read the thread mentioned in post #2 :)

Ok something very wrong.

I set the dish to south. Put in my long+lat in usals, couldnt find how to send it to 8w or 5w. So I sent it to astra 2d sky digital for the crack.

Look at the direction my dish is pointing compared to the next house's mini dish. Bearing in mind i set it south to begin with

are you sure your dish was pointing at true south to set it up ?

and i have a fortec star motor not the best of things :(

Yes had it at tru south. Just sent it to thor .08, the dish is pointing down into the garden.

I folled the instructions in the manual, but for some reason I don't thing the motor is turning the right way.

Forget Thor, send it to Atlantic Bird 3 @ 5W.

Going off the angle of the other dish, I'd say your dish was pointing due south on the photo. You are certain that when you set it up you moved the motor and dish together physically to due south?

Pete

Thanks Guys for all the help. But I'm Going to call in the pro's to finish the job.

It will have me driven mad, and taking too much time.

Sorry to hear that - my first one took me a couple of leisurely days and even then was only 95% right.

But the learning curve is steep and it now takes no more than half an hour or so after a plumb perfect pole has been fitted :)

When the dish drives the wrong way, it normally means that the USALS coordinates have been entered incorrectly.

Also, you would be better once having made your mast vertical, to have your ladder up on the gutter behind the dish, then your are working at waist level, rather than above your head, your T&K brackets are also really too close together.

Ok looks like i have to do it my self, no one is interested.

First off i'm going to get a new lnb and cable and sat meter,

any advice on the 3 above.

Cheers guys,

Invacom or Inverto LNb's have good reports. Cable - double screened benchmarked, just the ticket.
