My Satellite Setup
Humax VA-Fox (Viaccess Card Slot)
1.1m Triax Dish
0.3 LNB
HH110 Motor
My Location
London
Location:
London

System:
Triax 1.1m dish (pole mounted), Grundig 0.7 Universal LNB (6 years old), Manhattan HH motor, Humax VA Fox

The Problem:

Intermittent Reception on Nilesat 7 Degrees West depending on day or night!!

Details:

I get Nilesat channels say MBC2 at a signal strength of 17% during the day and 20% at night time.

@ 17% the screen freezes every 3 seconds and comes back after 2 seconds and it can get very annoying, at nights though its fine with the 20% reception.

Tried and failed:

I have tried everything, adjusted the motor angle, dish elevation, direction, turned the LNB, changed the connectors and this is the best I can get.

I can get all the other satellites, Hotbird, Astra, Sirius, Telstar, Turksat with very high reception values (60-100% signal strength and quality) but not Nilesat.

The only thing I haven't tried is a lower noise LNB but I don't know anything about them, is it going to help me.

By the way the 1.1m dish is the biggest I can get on my motor.

Please Help
:-crying

Many thanks

After changing to Sharp 0.3 db lnb I get most of the V channels on 7w. Also tried Invacom 0.3 in the past, was no better than a 0.6. Regards, pcd.

Join the club m8, that's the usual problem with 7*W. Bigger dish and more sensitve receiver might help.

People never learn, why can't you buy a large dish from the beginning instead then you wouldn't have had these problems.

Give him a break Likvid. 1.1M is plenty big enough for most satellites. We haven't all got deep pockets :D

Well, put Music CDs around the dish then if you are poor, it helps the signal a bit, i have tried myself and it does add some signal.

Likvid, i saw a photo from someone in South East Asia i think with CDs all around his dish but this was for C-band reception.

Suppose you've tested it on Astra 2D, right ?

Can you roughly say how much more signal one can get with this simple trick ?

Nilesat i have tested it on as that is the weakest for me here.

Approx 0.5dB i gained by doing it....

Looked crazy.

Oh 7W i see. Well this method seems to be only effective if very little gain is missing.
