Hi all, I'm dumping sky, as I only watch it for the sports.

I still want to watch premier league and championship games. Now I have an 80cm dish, and will get a digital receiver at some stage.

What I want to know is what channels should I be looking at picking up for prem football/ championship? I will be watching the matches on a 36" widescreen CRT so I could do with a decent quality picture (widescreen if poss) and english commentary (commentary not really an issue).

I do not mind paying for smart cards, cams etc so I can watch these games, as most Sports channels are encrypted.

At the moment I have been looking at TPS Star,Nova,ART Sports and DigitalALB..........are there any others? Which one is the best for:-
a) Ammount of matches
b)Pic quality
c)English commentary

As for championship games, with a PC card I should be able to watch Sky matches by using their feeds? What dish size would I need for this?

If we can decide on the group of channels I want to receive, could we then sort out an equipment list?

The channels you list are right...

especially ART, DigitalALB and TPS

you can officially subscibe to ART sports (English Audio)
for about £100 for 12 months....

if you go here and check the Football TV guide and see what channels show the games your most interested in....

Picture quality is better on TPS than ART, but the commentary is in French.

on top of the package, there is the choice of receiver and wether you go fully motorised ot not :)

What does the ART picture compare to? Is it a bit rate problem?

I will be motorising the dish.

Do you need a smart card for TPS or is it just a cam?

art sports and digitalb i would go for , i've got these myself and yeah the picture quality aint the best but its good value for the money

nova is the best but it is expensive to get a year sub to it

Will art sports be available as a pre paid subscription next season?

What is the picture like on ART? Blocky?

I will have an ART card, but use TPS aswell, so what box do I want (don't want to spend more than £150), and what CAM do I want?

ART and TPS on 13e?

for feeds, which are getting harder to get you'll best be motorised as 16e is favourite as well as others:)

Will an 80cm dish do the job?

Can I view these feeds on a digital receiver or is it only PC Card?

I will borrow my mates digital box over the weekend, and try and watch a few games on TPS foot/star.

What encryption do they use, how do I view it?

An 80cm will do...

ART picture is slightly grainy?? compared to other channels thats all

TPS is available with programmed cams/card or emulator if you own a Dreambox etc

if you get a technomate TM-1500CI+ Super you can use the multikrypt card reader for the official sub cards and you can update the software to get the TPS channels. I've got this receiver and it's great, very reliable, and its also award winning.

yeah but tps channels aren't gonna be around using patches and such for much longer so might aswell go for art sports to start with

to watch feeds you will need a pci sat card as they are in 4:2:2 mostly

Sport TV on Hispasat (30W) show virtually every Chelsea match.

Maybe that's a reason for avoiding it though.:D
