Hi guys I'm hoping one of you knowledgeable types might be able to help or point me in the right direction.
I'm fortunate enough to have a small place in southern spain
I have a famaval 1.8m parabolic metal dish
the LNB is old , i think it says Sivacom G120 uni twin 0.3db , the graphics are scratched and faded ( see pics)
I appreciate i am on the limit of reception
I use it to pick up Sky
I often have loss of one of the two signals ( when you check the sky settings signal strength and quality) one of the bars does not register.
This gets worse in the hot weather and strong sun but it's intermittent, better in the winter and no sun.
I have been told that its to do with atmospheric conditions ,but i don't understand why one of the signal bars seems to work fine.
Is it likely to be a defective LND or is the dish too small
Would increasing dish size improve things
Could you advise me on a quality LNB if that will make a difference, its much narrower than the type you get on std uk sky dishes, also I would like one that will also give me a separate freesat feed

Well it could be in no particular order

failing lnb
corrosion in the cables or connectors
slightly misaligned dish
failing receiver (often capacitor failure in the powr supply section)
spiders or other insects nesting in the throat of the lnb
atmospheric conditions - especially if its very hot as that can push the oscillators inside the lnb out of tolerance

etc etc.

As you say its worse in the hot weather Id suspect lnb problems.

Many thanks could you point me towards a decent LNB and is it possible to have one that will provide a feed to a freesat box simutaneously

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

You would need a quad C120 flanged LNB for multi receiver reception, not common these days, Invacom used to do one btw.

If all else fails you could remove the feed and try a standard quad LNBf, but the noise figures may not be as good.

A few questions:

1. As it is called a twin LNB: it has two outputs?
2. And you do have loss of signal on (just) one of these outputs?

3. Or do you mean that one of the bars shows no reception? If so, which bar (strength or quality)?

sorry ive been off ill
the LNB has two outlets to which is connected a twin coaxial cable , this runs to the back of the sky box.
i am using the signal meter in the sky software, it is normally just one of the two channels that has a lower or no signal both on strength and quality.
I have tried cooling the LNB with gently applying water , that made no difference.
The lnb on amazon is no longer available
is there a specialist supplier i could ask ?

Post photos of the signal meters while recording two UK beam channels, and the same with two Europe beam channels.

If you swap the LNB cables on the receiver does the problem change to the other tuner?

You could try making a sun shade for the LNB out of a plastic tub or bottle painted white.
