Hi Chaps and Chapesses

I have just bought a Sat Gear portable Satellite System with a Comag 30 12/240 receiver. I have a TV in the van that has freeview receiver. I can receive ITV through it and it has a 7 day epg thingy.

I understood that ITV can only be received via a satellite dish if the receiver is a FREESAT receiver.

Is this the case or will my TV receiver pick it up even if is connected to the Comag.

I am off to France in October and my missus dont want to miss Coronation Street ha ha. (i`m told by Sat Gear that the 65cm dish will receive as far as southern France)

Your expertise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yours is a FTA receiver and will receive all the free channels (and more) that are available on a freesat receiver. The freesat receivers have a 7 day EPG (electronic programme guide) for the freesat channels that have paid to be on it (as well as red button access to some alternative content) whereas yours merely has an EPG that shows "now and next" info and the "red button streams" would show as separate channels (probably with the word stream in their name). I would suggest you get some practice in before leaving at setting up the system at home as it can be tricky and frustrating finding the right satellite for the first time but once you have done it a couple of times it gets a lot easier.

I would suggest reading this site for details on how to set up (follow the free-to-air link) -_http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/

Thanks davemurgtroyd

I only got it yesterday but had to go to work, so only had a couple hours. I did manage to get a couple of channels but was rushing.

Will definately practice. Thanks for the reply and the link. Very helpful.

Just another bit of advice. with the set up in the caravan where the normal fixed aerial goes through a booster. If i get the appropriate connectors i.e F connector to usual aerial input and then aerial to F connector at receiver end should it work through the normal caravan internal aerial. I mean so F connector dosent have to come in through a window direct to receiver, if you know what i mean..

Thanks

If the pre-installed cable is standard coax, it will be high loss, only way to see if it'll work is to try it.

You can get a through window flat cable adapter if the standard coax doesn't work. _http://www.sateuropa.co.uk/product_overview.asp?prod=TechniSat-TechniKabel-1-12cm-&id=224&catid=12&subcat=58
