hi guys!

after blocking out every few secs on hd (uk sly) i decided to look in tuning menu,

to my surprise on hd channels the snr was fluctuating from 77% down randomly to approx 65% but varied!

after fine tune of my motor this increased (so my dish was out a bit) but still keeps droping

this only happens on hd channels normal channels and the snr is rock solid!

is this normal ? do you get fluctuations?

i personally think its my tuner in my box.

what u think guys>?

Ian this is a common tuner problem on clones. Is it all the HD channels? Discovery, SS1, Channel 4 are the worst from what I remember reading. Some have used in line amps to solve it while it made no difference to others. They sorted it by purchasing a genuine tuner. Some clones have the same Alps tuner as the genuine boxes but some were fitted with a chineese one.
 
There's also a fix where you replace a capacity on the tuner pcb
 
This has been talked about in another thread somewhere. I had this exact problem with a genuine DM800. It's made worse by using a shitty LNB, in the case of my DM800, the standard Sly UK supplied dish and LNB. I've solved the issue by inserting an inline booster in the feed to the box. It works perfectly now. One day I'll probably buy a decent LNB for the mini dish, maybe an MTI blue line like I have on my 80cm dish. (DM8000).

Check fleabay for an inline amp / booster.

hmm yea i think its just a space issue, as now its started to go to a blank display and have to be reset now every day!!!

i think its over heating as the bottom pcb was toasty! i have a fan inside pointing to the tuner! but nothing to the bottom pcb,

i have been watching some of the german channels in hd and no problem!!

after a fine tune on astra 2 its now behaving, but the signal is still varying alot!!!!


is the 500 tuner same as the 800??? as i can pick up the 500 tuner for £9.99 and the shops less than 30 mins away from me :)
 
oh yea its a clone, but has original alps tuner,
thinking of drilling small holes in metal case to help with heat!

and yea my ss3 was worst followed by discovery and some other random channels, but like i say now ok, but signal varys loads!!!!
 
No Ian500 tuner wont do, 800 tuner is DVBS2 for HD

looks like i need a new tuner as lost loads of channels last night!

but to be fair the supplier is gonna send 1 , just cant w8 4 weeks for it to arrive! will go and buy 1!

back to my trusty old 5620 i believe!
 
and oh yea it was the tuner crashing my box!!!!

ie blank display!!!!
