This got me thinking. I was looking through the channels on my motorised TD78, and noticed that Vintage TV and others on that 28.5e transponder were low quality. Those of you who read my recent post know that I've had a slight problem with my fixed TD78 on Sky and the problem was elevation. Just wondering if I have the same problem here. Also, trying to tune in 26e is a pain as Astra at 28.2 keeps coming in and wiping it out. Thoughts please. :)

26E might be a problem, on a 78cm dish, especially if it's raining.
What signal quality/strength readings are you getting, on 28.2E, from the strong FTA channels, like BBC, and Vintage TV? I have to admit I rarely visit 28.2E and have never heard of Vintage TV.

Vintage TV is on Eurobird @28.5e. I'm getting about 40 something % which is low.

It should be coming in strong because I'm in the UK. FTA box is a Technomate 5402HD.

It does for me-what you need is a sensitive signal meter and flex that dish slightly!

You may be right there, Paul! All I have is two Silvercrest SL65's (used one to set up this dish) and my Satlink Satellite finder.

Glasgow,ish!
LOVE the SilverCrest SL65, Anyway back to the case in point, Vintage TV, 16 mile outside Glasgow, ISS perforated 80cm dish focused on 13E with a massive (Thats not going to work they said....) 15.2 degree offset Inverto Black Ultra quad LNB I get SNR: 53% on Technomate TWIN with Vix 3.0 build version 683, and off the same quad but with a direct feed not coming through the DiSEqC switch I get 73% quality on the Skybox F5 In the bedroom. I also have a motorised Zone 2 Triax $ky dish and I get it at 65% AGC also on the TWIN with that one just to prove me wrong its fluxing between that and 67% as I type this lol, but the cloud cover is rolling in as we speak, more rain is on its way......as per.

Have you tried nudging your dish, East/West, using the motor, to improve the signal?
It sounds like your dish is not tracking the satellite arc correctly. What are your signal strength/quality readings on 42E, 39E, 0.8W and 30W?

Worth also checking the LNb skew at reference. It should be at 0 degs.

Signal levels on said satellites 45e/39e/0.8w/30w are fine. But 26e is getting splattered by 28.2e.

Will probably end off replacing the TD78 with an 88cm or a 1m. But not until next year! :)

Well a larger dish at least will give better directionality and so 28E will be less likely to interfere with 26E (once aligned correctly! :) )

the beamwidth is an issue aswell as the official footprint saying 90cm for BADR4 and 120cm for poor weather fade margin and up to 160cm for northern scotland and western eire but as we know the footprint maps can have huge descrepencies. ive found a motorised dish is never as good as a fixed dish on 1 orbital slot at receiving the signal as its a compromise when tracking the arc although its marginal differences . when you go to a larger dish you would be better going to 1m like the gibby or orbital or even the td110 imo. this is the fun of the hobby trying to squeeze every drop of signal from your system and tweaking it to perfection... enjoy!!

Very true, Gibertini! :) Hairybadger! It seems my motorised TD78 is aligned right. It's just a tad too small.

Then explain low reception in post 1 with this dish

My td88 does well with 26E,only in serious weather does it struggle,a td110 needs to be out of view of planning authorities unless you have agreeable neighbours. (My td 88 is 88x95cm i think).
