PPV & Phillips DTV

Can anyone please offer any help. I am using Kevlar 1.6.6. But I cannot receive Any PPV (Adult included), ITV Digital info Channel, and a few others. The PPV film channel (ch 50) just comes up with waiting for text to load.... then nothing. Everything else seems to be ok, do ITVD transmit these channels on a different frequency, and if so, do I need to upgrade my TV aerial, or just do a little trick with the tv? Two other people I know have no problms at all. And by the way my tv signal strength is always high.

Okey dokey - here we go again. PPV method was changed on STBs a while back - the latest hexes use the new STB method. However, the old method is still used by the ITV CAMs. If you have an ITV CAM then you need to use Kevlar 1.3 for PPV but be aware this will be hit by ECMs much more frequently. The other option is to get a different CAM such as Aston 1.03+ around 100quid that does work with the latest hexes.

The TV contains either a Common Inteface slot or if you are lucky already comes with a Conditional Access Module (CAM) fitted.
If it just comes with the interface ITV digital will send you a CAM.
This is the bit of electronics that reads the smart card.
The official ITV digital CAM as far as I am aware, still has not been enabled for PPV. Unnoficial Seca or Aston 1.03 > 1.05 CAM's do work with the correctly programmed smart card!

Thanks but I should imagine the TV has everything built in otherwise the shop would of told me? Could it be that they send certain channels on a different frequency and the aerial could need upgrading?

Check out this site Russell http://www.jaura.freeserve.co.uk/ , it has a list of all channels and what multiplex they are one. You should be able tell which ones you are missing, or if it's a decryption problem. Once you've done that look at the transmitter information for your area and you can find out which frequencies you are missing, if at all.

Thanks Rolf, but I'm really sorry, I have no idea what all that means. I've looked on that site, and do not know how or why they affect me.
Sorry to be a silly but I really need a dummy's guide or someone with a lot of patience. I am more to be pitied than scolded.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Feb-02 AT 08:19 PM (GMT)]Ok Russell, no problem.

This link shows what channels are in which groups http://www.jaura.freeserve.co.uk/muxes.htm (each group of channels are transmitted at different frequencies) Print this out and mark off what you have and what you don't.

Heres a list in order of channel numbers which may be easier to check http://www.jaura.freeserve.co.uk/channels.htm

If you can establish that there are whole groups of channels that you are missing, then we can look at your local transmitter and see which frequencies you may be having difficulties with.

Rolf

PS. If you are in an area where you can receive from two transmitters, you may find that you have duplicate channels, one of which will work and one that won't.

1) If you don't already know your Ordnance Survey grid reference go to http://www.streetmap.co.uk to find it. Enter your postcode and then hit the teeny-tiny-tiddley convert link on the resulting page.

2) Go to http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/itvd.exe and enter your grid reference from above to find out which is your local transmitter mast to point towards. The results include the compass bearings.

3) Go to http://www.itc.org.uk/divisions/eng_div/digital_transx/index.asp and find out all about that transmitter muxes, signal strength etc.

4) Spend hours of fun on the roof fiddling with your aerial direction and trying the different UHF frequency settings on your STB.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Mar-02 AT 09:40 PM (GMT)]To Rolf:
I checked the channels and it looks like 50-88 Im having problems with. I set my UHF number to 29 (crystal palace) and this gives me the strongest signal.
Do they transmit PPv at a different frequency?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Mar-02 AT 10:44 PM (GMT)]Below is a list of the Multiplex frequencies for Crystal Palace

MUX.1 25
MUX.2 22
MUX.A 32
MUX.B 28
MUX.C 34
MUX.D 29

The PPV are on MUX.A along with Channel 5, BBC Knowledge and ITN News.

Even with an old antenna you should be receiving Channel 32, as it is below the analogue BBC2. If you are receiving channel 5 and ITN news, then it is not a reception problem, but a card problem and you may need to try something other than what you are using.
