Back again with another offering.

This time it was replacement of the sealant around the inner and outer parts of the rear mounting ring. The old sealant had lost adhesion and came away from the dish in two complete strands (inner and outer).

The surfaces to have new sealant applied were cleaned up and dried with a hair dryer at low heat to blow out any moisture that could not be mopped up. New sealant was then applied to the inner and outer surfaces of the rear mounting ring at its join with the dish. Due to the diameter of the dish I had to stand it almost upright to gain working access to the rear mounting ring.

I have attached a few pictures below from "ring reseal" day.

I'm back. :cool:

I have not had much time to work on the Precision 2.0m lately but managed to get a little time on it to tidy up some of the areas of the dish face that would be better with a bit of attention. Basically it was a gentle rub with some 600 grit, then prime with Etch primer followed by a top coat.

The Precision 2.0m refurb project is drawing to a close. I have not done any work on the dish for a while apart from mount it onto the ground stand and Precision square frame polar mount on the mobile platform.

I seem to be stuck in a rut as a mini dish man partially morphed into a small dish man. My target is to make the transition into a big dish man with something appropriate to gain me entry into the elite club alongside the other big men. I think I will probably sell this Precision 2.0m dish and possibly buy a cheap 3.0m or 3.5m mesh dish from China for C Band.

The Precision 2.0m dish is now tucked away for the winter in a sheltered corner of the patio on the mobile platform. I have attached below a couple of pictures of the dish on the mount before it went into winter hibernation.

How much do you expect to pay for a 3M with shipping and are there any savings to be made by buying two?

@aceb

The prices I have for mesh dishes from China are listed below:

3.0m = $450 USD
3.5m = $560 USD
3.7m = $615 USD
4.0m = $800 USD
4.5m = $1500 USD
5.0m = $1800 USD
6.0m = $2000 USD

Prices include a polar mount or an Az/El mount, whichever the buyer prefers.

Shipping to a London port is $100 USD, arrival port handling fee is £287 GBP, there may be customs charges and VAT as well.

I did not enquire about buying more than one. The port handling fee might be per consingment rather than per item so a consingment of two in a crate may possibly have the same port handling fee of £287 GBP, this would need to be checked.

Thanks MB, I couldn't find a direct hit with useful info about that port handling fee. I would imagine it's per consignment, typically a pallet of similar items but who's to say for sure. I'm quite tempted by a 3.5M!

Perhaps someone will organise a "mini group buy"

After restoring the Precision 2.0m dish it was in service for quite a while until being stored away at the back of the garden. I am pleased to say that the dish has now been sold and sailed away into the sunset to its new home.

I have attached a couple of pictures below of the dish on its journey to its new home.

That, Sir, is a coracle. To drive it properly, it needs to be laid on its back.
