Problem locking onto Thor 1W

My Satellite Setup
ISS 1 Meter dish with Invacom 0.3dB LNB. Technomate 5400 CI+ Super receiver.
My Location

Hi everyone I'm struggling at the moment trying to lock onto Thor 1W I'm living in the North West of England and using a 1 meter dish with a 0.4db LNB attached to it my receiver is a Technomate 5400 CI Super Plus. There is nothing to block the signal eg trees buldings etc and I've utilised the good weather to try to lock onto it to rule out clouds affecting the signal but to no avail. Is my dish too small wrong LNB or am I missing something else. Reaching the end of my tether so any help would be greatly received.
 
1metre is big enough for alot of the channel on that satellite

a website to help show you the direction to point the dish is dishpointer.com and will give you the elevation angle for your location, this the tilting up or down of the dish.

bbc world 11325h is a strong tp to use to lock on the satellite, if your using the receiver signal bar to align up on
 
Sounds like an alignment issue. If using the receiver to align the dish, make sure you have an active receivable Tp shown. As said BBc World 11.325h does well.
 
benzade, another thing the thor 1west satellite is higher in the sky than if your using a sky dish to compare with so you will need to tilt it up more by a few degrees
 
Thanks for your advice guys after reading your replies it sounds like I may need to change the transponder to the one recomended. As I've used a sat meter in conjunction with the receivers signal bar and been getting from the meter that I am on something when I point my dish in Thors direction but on returning to the receiver found I'm not locked on anything even other satellites in the list. Anyway will try your advice and let you know how I get on.

Another puzzling aspect of my experimenting is after locking onto certain satellites say 16 E for example after turning the power off to the LNB to remove the sat meter without getting a shock I find on returning I've lost that satellite although I haven't altered the dish in anyway and find I have to lock onto a more powerful satellite say Hotbird first in order to go back to the weaker satellite to get it to show up again. Could this be a simple case of finding a stronger transponder on those types of satellites as well?
 
One more idea: try locking to 5w (either 11591 or 12543) ---- basically unmissable; from there, 1w should not be too difficult.
 
Just a quick reply to those who answered my query in this thread I'm now locked onto Thor 1W thanks to using the transponder recomended as oppose to the receivers default one. Although it's been raining at the time of writing so I don't think I'm getting all the transponders I'm cabable of receiving. No doubt this kind of question has been asked a million times before so thanks for taking the trouble to help me out.
 
Hello again sorry to open up this thread again, basically an update on my problem locking onto Thor 1W. I've also since realised I've had a dodgy LNB to contend with which wasn't seeing certain transponders on Thor and other satellites.
I have changed this now for the time being with a bog standard Cambridge Sky mini dish type LNB which I had spare and this is now seeing more transponders, but I would like to get Nova Sports on 12.643 V 27.000 3/4 which the LNB is still not seeing do I need a better LNB or is it a case of due to location, etc, etc I've gone as far as I can?

May still be alignment. Avoid using a mini-dish LNb, they do not perform well on a circular dish.
 
Are you getting any of the other channels on that frequency?

Nova Sports was renamed so your receiver might already have the channel stored under another name, I think it was previously called Galaxie sports.
 
Thanks for the quick replies, I'm not getting anything from frequency 12.643 V it's just registering as two red lines on my Technomate indeed the vast majority of the 12.000 range both horizontal and vertical are not registering.

I have noticed a slight improvement (frequency wise 12.687 H showed up) with swapping my original LNB for the Cambridge one and although I know this isn't ideal it was all I had at the time as I was wanting to watch Chelsea v Barcelona over on Sat1 on Astra 19E and time was getting on. My LNB lost that frequency as well when I could pull it in no problem before leading me to supect the LNB was faulty hence a quick change over with what I had.

As a newbie I've no idea what is a suitable LNB to get the frequencies I want on my 1 meter dish so any recomendations in that area would be welcome.
 
Inverto and Invacom perform well and have good reports.
