My Satellite Setup
free to air digi box with 60cm dish.
Laptop
My Location
mobile for touring caravan
I have a portable satellite & receiver set-up for my touring caravan. When I set up my 60cm dish on my tripod I position it to Astra 2d and get a really good signal on my satellite finder kit but all I seem to get is lots of French, German, Polish & many more european channels and its hit or miss if I get English channels or not. In fact it seems that If I don't get a good signal the more chance I have of getting English channels. When I do a satellite search on the digi box the only Astra 2 satelite that shows up is 2a and not 2d but it says its on the same bearing of 28.2. Can anyone help me please to be able to set up for English channels easily every time.

Thanks.

Hi, when you are getting the foreign channels you are pointing the dish at the wrong satellite.

What receiver are you using?

On a non-sky box, the easiest way to do it is to pick a transponder on 28E, for example 10758V, then adjust the dish until you get a good quality reading.
Then have a look to see if you are getting the correct channels like ITV1 London for example.

If you don't get the channel, do a rescan of the transponder and see what channels you do get and adjust the dish accordingly depending on what channels you did have and from what satellite.

The other alternative is to tune into a known channel like BBC1 for example, and swivel the dish around a bit until you get a picture, I used to use this method on my old Sky Dodgibox.

By the way, where are you using the system, is it outside the UK?

Welcome to the forum stean roffey

As Robbo has explained if you are getting French German and Polish then you are not on 28.2 East and must be on either 13 East Hotbird or 19.2East Astra 1. The reason you think you are on that satellite is because some satellites carry exactly the same Frequency Polarity SR and FEC setup as on another satellite thus you think you are on the one showing but you are not. Before going further as Robbo requested you need to clarify just where you are and what you are using
