Hi everyone.

I have been trying with different cables to get the composite video and audio to work properly on my UHD box. On HDMI, all fine. I have no less than three of these cables with the jack plug at the end and each one gives different problems. I get audio but no video with one, another no video and left hand side audio only. With the last one I get video if I pull the jack plug out a little bit but no audio. I want to record stuff from Stars.TV, but can see no way around this issue. One of these cables actually came with the unit. Does anyone have any solutions to this problem please?:-respekt

It's so damn frustrating!

Record to a USB stick or hard drive. As the cable that came with the receiver doesn't work properly it may be the socket is badly soldered. You could try swapping the connecters around for example to see if video is coming out of one of the audio plugs but if this was the case I'd expect all cables to behave the same. I tried that on one of my TVs and it didn't damage anything but no guarantees. You could also test the cables with a multimeter.

I had a similar problem, with my VU+ Duo 2, running OpenBh 5.3. I record to my internal hard drive, then transfer them to a DVD recorder, via a scart laed, if I don't want to keep them on my VU+, and the DVD recorder allows me to fast burn, any recordings, to DVD disk. I couldn't get any audio working.
I solved the problem by changing the audio settings, specifically Auto Volume Level, to HDMI.
Have you tried altering the Audio, and/or video settings?

Do you still have the HDMI cable connected to the TV? If so then try the RCA outputs without it connected to the unit, (unit might have auto connection switching)also look in the receivers menu for the audio settings , if set to PCM then change it to the next setting. (manual dose not say what settings are available)

I came across the fact that such jack plugs with L+R+video come in two different lengths.
Maybe something like that is the issue here, too?

For my SAB recveiver I needed an extra long one.
Pin-out is here: https://sabsatellite.nl/upload/files/1452247664-456_SAB_SKY_4800_Mini_jack-Scart_diagram.rar
For the long jack: the part where it says 4-18 is twice as long as where it says 20 or 6.
(For the short jack: they are all equally long.)

I found a few adapter cables with long jack to 3 cinch female plugs on flee-markets, but I often had to switch audio and video connections.
Your cables are from jack, to what plugs?

So maybe with you the situation is quite something else, but I thought I'd mention this.

Do you have a composite or component video output ???

Component output/input cables (also known as YPbPr component video) have different types of cables for the video, the Red/White cable pair are for audio only, the RGB (marked Red Green Blue) are for video, using the audio cables for video connections will cause problems as they do not have the video bandwidth required for component video signals.

Composite would be a red/white/yellow cable, yellow being the video, your TV must have the same type/color inputs, if it has the component type inputs then your going to have problems with the video.

I have had this problem..I had to swap the yellow video phono around for one of the audio phonos, ie..the red R audio phono goes to the video and vice versa. I think it depends on how the mini jack plug is wired. Might just do it for you, certainly worked for me in the past..

The colour coding of lead / plugs used to be a standard.

Thank you all for the replies. Yes, my next task is to check all cables with my multimeter and also to swap the connections around. I think it's called trial and error. I'll post about my findings when I've exhausted all other options. :-respekt

Hi again everyone!

Well, it's good news, I have sorted the issue. I did try all my other composite leads, but nothing worked. The one thing that has worked is an RGB cable from a Technika TV that I bought earlier this year. I have had to switch a couple of leads around, but it WORKS! So thank you all again for your input. I knew the people on here would point me in the right direction. CHEERS ALL!!!!!!

So, can you share the Pin-out of the plug/cable? And a photo? As a reference for other members?

Here are the photos and info needed for the Octagon SX 88SE UHD box, to record to external source.
On the photo of the plug, working from left to right,
TIP (1ST SECTION) IS GREEN CENTRE RGB
(2ND SECTION) IS BLUE CENTRE RGB
(3RD SECTION) IS RED CENTRE RGB
(4TH SECTION) IS SCREEN/GND ON ALL RGB PLUGS.

Connect as you see in the second photo. I hope this helps anyone wanting to do the same as myself!!

So, speaking of composite video, the tip leads to green, and is R audio (red);
2nd leads to blue, and is L audio (white);
3rd leads to red, and is composite video (yellow),
if I understand you correctly?

That would be the same pin-out as I had with the SAB, just with the "shorter" jack plug.

Thanks for posting!
