Problems with picture breaking up

Hi I do not have a Satellite dish, but have recently started experiencing similar problems on ITV, Channel 4 and 5.

When I check my Humax box for signal strength it is 70 to 75% across all channels

However BBC channels Quality is 75 to 100% but all the rest of the old terrestial channels are average 40% and moving all the time sometimes 0%

Checked all connections and nothing has changed. I put Aerial directly into TV and still get the same problems.... Aerial was only installed with cables to 7 rooms 2 years ago.

Can anyone help
 
No Satellite dish? Then I assume you are referring to DTT/Freeview?

If so, then please Post in the correct Forum.

If you have problems on both TV and Freeview receiver, there must be a problem with the signal, has it always done this, are other TVs in the house OK?
 
I suspect you are on Winter Hill transmitter, as am I and indeed I too have recently seen evidence of this in the form of on screen 'blocking' however according to this site there are no engineering works taking place. In my case I simply switched to sky box satellite transmissions instead.

rolfw Thanks for that. 5 other TV's (empty nest) so only 1 TV on at a time.
Topper Problems started about 2 months ago, now really bad. Checked cables, boosters and adapters. Plug TV directly into aerial still same. The problem seems to get worse after 9p.m.
We do not have time or money for Sky. Channel 4 worst, ITV and Channel 5 about the same. BBC1 and 2 Great and not affected.

You might want to think about the subscription free satellite option - Freesat. A one off cost for the equipment and absolutely no ongoing costs at all.
 
It shouldn't be necessary to go to satellite as you had Freeview working after the Digital Switch Over a year ago. Something has changed in your installation - it's just a matter of finding what.

You say you have five other TVs. This implies that you have one of two possinilities. There's either a Distribution Amplifier (DA) somewhere, probably the attic or the other alternative is an a mast head amplifier at the aerial and a passive splitter, again probably in the attic. The amplifier part may have gone faulty. If you have a DA then you might be able to test by simply taking it out of the circuit and joining the aerial lead directly to the downlead to the main room. If you have the mast head amplifier then this is a bit more difficult so I suggest that you have a look to see what you've got.

You talked about boosters and adaptors. It's just possible that you have too much amplification and the signal is overloading the tuner in your TV and Humax although that's an outside bet.
 
I would agree with Paul on this, I have watched freeview today and not experienced any problems at all with Winter Hill, I would go back to basics beginning with the aerial, check cable connections and work through to indoors to ensure there is no break in outer insulation as this would allow an ingress of water into the cable
