Programming, what's basic kit?

hi, i posted on another forum a few weeks ago about this, but it seems like that are a bit hush hush on the matter.

Basically i know you can get different types of programmers/cards, i've seen many on the internet, some are old and some are modern, here is my question.

Which programmer would be best suited for usage with older/more up to date blank cards? So for example I am not after reading NDS card because i am not stupid enough to do that. what i am after is a programmer that can read/write the old/latest blank cards, also what cards i need to be looking out for?

I have seen the latest titanium cards going for about £70 per card which is ridiculous, they are probably some older type cards that will do the job which might cost say £20/card.

I've heard about other cards which i won't go into, but basically what kit would do me and be able to read/write files for as an example viaacess? as this should be possible.

the reason i ask about programmer even though i know what they are, simply because the very popular "USB/Rs232 phoenix" programmer is getting old now, i wasn't sure if it could handle the latest cards, if not what's a good enough programmer to use?

The budget will be under £100 for programmer and not sure about blank cards.

I would guess that something like the Infinity USB Phoenix will programme most cards available today, including those for patching CAMs.
 
Or the Elvis programmer is also very good available in serial or usb.
 
well that's just the thing, usb pheonix i have heard of for years, last i heard it will not support the latest cards. So basically it's pointless me buying old technology.

These programmers available in usb or serial, surely they will convert from serial to usb and vise versa with an adapter yeah? Just my laptop doesn't have a serial port, i'm wanting to also try it out as a slave card reader for my satellite receiver too, i heard you can use it for that.

Anyways i'll look into these programmers, so you reckon this elvis or fausto will read these latest cards like the titanium, mosc and others?

It's ok, i've found out that i can use a CAS3 and that will handle most modern cards, thanks for the info people.
 
The Infinity USB Phoenix will program all the cards currently available, including the MII+.
A few of the cards are programmed in phoenix mode, which requires the Infinity USB Phoenix to be connected by both the USB and Serial cable, but then so does the Cas 3+.
 
I have just bought a duolabs CAS3+ for £58 off an auction website, i have seen these on the internet for £49.50 but the guy i got it off said he offers free support on how to get everything working with it. It also mentioned that it supports the latest cards too so that was ok.

The thing that confused me a bit was, duolabs offer CAS3+ and dynamite programmers, the CAS3+ was about £20 more expensive when i looked it up, since the dynamite programmer was for smart cards, i persume the CAS3 interface will do smart cards as well.

Anyways i've got one sorted now, just need to do some reasearch on the right card that i'll need.

The Cas 3+ can program cards as well as Cams but can't do much more than the Infinity USB Phoenix can do when it comes to cards.
They both require a serial cable to program in Phoenix mode.

Looks like i'll have to start looking into getting something for my laptop to convert either usb or parrallel port to rs232 if it has to be serial to program in pheonix mode. If it has to be a Serial port, i'll have to take it downstairs to program.
