I have a humax 5400 which has the current patch, with this I am using a
silver card with ds9 files, my set-up is motorised. I am having a lot of
trouble finding out information about magic cams, what they do exactly? how
to program them, availability of software and most importantly will I get
channels that I can not get at the moment with ds9 files? Such as viacess2
and seca 2 maybe sky channels? Or would it make no difference at all to my
system? Thanks all

Answers are

Yes - it should work as a normal CAM for any individual system as this is what it was intended for

Yes - all programming anomalies and features are liste dhere and elsewhere
and

NO- the system will not get V2 or S2/ or I2 on what you have , but not because of the CAM

Thanks, CH.

There is very little to add to your short, but precise comment. :)

Perhaps, that the current Magic soft does not support DS9 cards and that the MM will work on v.2 of Via, Se** and Ird with original subscription cards.

To me, there is not much point in adding MM to any patched receiver anyway.

However, the MM is a great add-on option for those STBs that
- can not be patched )(-red
- have no built-in or added-on CAMs but just the CI slot(s), like Humax 5100, as these are dead cheap. :D

Can i inprove my set up or will a ds9 silvercard combo give me all that is available to date without subscription? Or do the fun cards give more channels?

I am not sure, but think that fun card gives no advantage vs DS9 in terms of contents.

Tiggy,

what do you mean by
not sat upgradeable
?

Can you not load the new soft from the web and upload the receiver using a PC?

If the embedded Viaccess CAM in your Humax does not support V.2, but you have official subscription card, than yes the Magic Module can help, but so could a cheaper Viaccess Red CAM (Rolf -?).

TPS, however, does not necessarily require V.2 compatibility as it is multicrypted in two versions of Viaccess (1 and 2), Viaccess v.1 being modified for anti-pirate purposes and called TPScrypt.

Again, Magic will be as useful here, as the Red Viaccess CAM.

The real question is, what else would you like to watch.

I would go along with Nickolai on the upgrade option, it should be ugradable via PC, failing that though, I would guess that a red CAM would be a cheaper option than the Magic Module, but wouldn't give nearly as much pleasure. :)

It is an early model vaci 5300 which is not able to update software via sat download. Only able to get software via Humax main site and upgrade via computer. Last available software was approx 2 years ago due to recent upgrade of model.

Humax will update if sent back but understand that problems exist with V2 SOFTWARE/MEMORY in box.

I have moved to France & rent legit' Canal Satellit box & subscription but this is a bit extreme for others!

Could I use gold gard (as did with VACI) in legit' box to get tps etc..?

Regards,
Tiggy

Tiggy,
As you are already renting an official Canal Satellite box, i guess with a 12 moth subscription, why would you want to spend more money to have TPS when the extra channels are not really worth it. (TF1 which is part of TPS is free by Terrestrial Television )
As Nickolai said "The real question is, what else would you like to watch."
I've never heard of anybody being able to receive tps with an official C Sat box. Even with an original TPS box people are having lots of problems with attacks.
If you add a MM to your Humax you should be able to receive TPS (TPScrypt) form hotbird 13deg. but why bother.

Why do you use silvercard on your h5400 when you can use funcard. Funcard is THE card for h5400. You have updated 6in1 files for funcard everyday. If you need to watch seca2 on h5400 it´s better to buy MM instead of aston-modul because MM is more flexible and works on more than seca2.
