The regional editions of the RAI TG and the other "localized" programs will finally be visible live throughout Italy, thanks to the satellite broadcast on the free bouquet Tivusat.
We've been talking about this for a long time, but it's never happened. And now it is official (Giorgio Fatale of RAI spoke about it at yesterday's Bologna conference) that from next April all 22 regional RAI channels (practically the different "versions" of RAI3) will be simultaneously visible on the Tivusat platform. This means that a citizen, even if off-site, will be able to choose to watch the news of their region of origin live.
A similar service (but not live) can be pursued through the Internet, on the website of the regional RAI newspaper, or streamed through mhp applications broadcast on RAI channels. But certainly the ease and immediacy of using a simple channel, is priceless.
Along with this initiative, there will come a kind of reorganization of the satellite presence of RAI, with the addition of a multiplex, compared to those used today, which will include precisely all regional channels and the channel in 4K, issued at 25 Mbit/sec. Regional channels, on the other hand, will be in MPEG4-encoded SD.
The live satellite broadcasting of all regional channels has taken some time because, in order to do so, it has to completely change the entire production architecture. Today it is the regional offices that take the regional inserts in the national signal and "mountain" on it. From the regional headquarters, the signal is sent to the affected transmission facilities. Now, however, the modified signal from the regional offices must be able to travel the route backwards to Rome to be sent to the satellite from a centralised point.

Interesting that this has had to wait because of the way the Rai 3 services opt-out of the main signal. Most of them must have been fed back to Rome for a while now due to them being present in the multistreams on 5°W (these will feed the transmitters there rather than a direct feed from the regional Rai 3 studio).
I think FVG/Südtirol/Valle D’Aosta are the only three missing from those multistreams on 5°W of all the Rai 3 versions now. Sardinia was added recently. Maybe these are the last few opting out in the old way and they will appear on both 5°W and 13°E Tivùsat in due course.
I’d be quite interested to see the German language Südtirol version!
