Got one off these rain hoods of Amazon, keeps the droplets nicely off the Ku LNB but more especially the Ka LNB. They are made in Scandanavia, they must use them to keep off the snow. Good bit of kit

I've seen them in the shops in Finland. I have been tempted to get one myself to keep the worst of the snow off.
 
Well they may work to keep the stuff off the LNB eye, but what do you do about the ton of rain/snow/sleet/cows between you and the satellite?

We broadcasters have tried everything, we found the best bet to keep the signals coming was to go to bigger dishes, in heavy snow areas heated radomes were used, but when the clouds are chock full of heavy rain/snow or other things a bigger dish comes in handy.

But not much can be done when you get total signal blockage due to too much moisture between you and the satellite on a "Ku" band dish/LNB, this is why we went to "C" band, less signal loss on the lower frequency's due to water vapor.

One way I keep the snow/ice off my dish is to use a black heavy gauge lawn/leaf bag, slip it over the dish and stick a drop light in it with a 40 watt bulb, a temperature sensor for the pipe heating tape works to turn it on when it gets cold enough to freeze, a few tie wraps will close it up.
 
Works well protecting the LNB just wish dish designers altered feedarm design to diamond shape instead of thin/broad flat so the snow does not build up so much in nordic conditions/locations:-toilet

Just wrap it with pipe heating tape, it will melt the snow/ice off, you can get some with a temperature controller, comes on at or below zero "C".

I have customers at or above the snow line, I use stick on dish heater panels, (goes on the back side of the dish) heated LNB's and pipe heating tape, keeps things snugly warm.
 
I cut down a PET bottle a couple years ago when we had a lot of snow & stuck it with gaffer tape over the Lnb's it worked for 6 weeks until the snow went :)
 
I find this is the best way for keeping snow ice and rain of my bigger dish :)

Its only recently that ive seen the rain hoods good idea :)
 
Here's my home made cover to stop the rain drops forming on the LNBs (these 23mm type suffer when there are raindrops on the face).

It's been on for 2 years now and still working well.

to be honest I used a 3 litre coke bottle cut it down to shape and put this over the dish and this works a treat and a lot cheaper !!!
 
no probs I will take a pic as soon as I get home !!

I should have said in my post " and put this over the lnb " NOT put this over the dish !! lol !!!

I think I used a 1.5l bottle for mine (a few posts up).
 
I tried various bottles, but wanted something bigger as I may change the Ku LNB back to C Band, so need the extra space to accomodate the conical scalar.
