Thanks, but I had this document together with my RC2000A. In the Appendix D I read:
"The user should refer to RCI document ‘ Communications Protocol’ for the specific program commands and descriptions
of their functions."
And this is the document I'm looking for.
So, my problem is not connecting the controller to my PC or understanding the serial protocol in general, but I need to know EXACTLY every possible command and response to use the controller remotely.
Any additional advice is greatly appreciated.
 
I've never used it but isn't the A just a subset of the C detailed in Appendix E? The revision history, on page 82, gives the differences. Perhaps try some commands via a terminal?

Yes the user manual of A and C version are almost the same, at least in that Appendix section.
They refer to a document that I'm not able to find at the moment.
 
Here's all I have as far as coms and demo control sw go. Informative.
RC techs informed me that their protocol is backwards compatible.

And. If anyone can make sense of this. And get intrigued to fashion an Arduino, etc. interface that accepts diseqc in/RC controller output.
How cool would that be?

This document is very interesting but not so easy to understand for me.
Just a question please. Using these commands, is it possible to control ALL options in the RC2000 through such terminal program? Not sure if the controller "replies" with text messages or any type of code? Thanks.

There are serial, com port monitor applications that will let you see the traffic both ways.
 
Perhaps an example could clarify better my goal.
Many years ago I used Windows Hyperterminal to remotely control an ALTEIA satellite receiver.
It was the first version of the well-known professional Tandberg receivers.
When I sent a specific command typing a text string on my computer keyboard, the receiver replied with similar text to confirm or deny the command execution.
In the same way it was possible knowing the receiver status (for example the actual locked frequency and its reception quality and parameters).
It was all in plain text, very simple and straightforward.
I'm looking for a similar way to control my RC2000A, if any. Thanks.
 
A string entered on a keyboard might keep you busy for a long while.
There units require a long string. You can extract the zip file and take a look at the files or get a pc with the correct OS and install it.
Then use a serial monitor app or loopback plug and see your command string.

Morning all - my RC2000 elevation jack has stopped counting on the display of the RC - it still moves, but the display isnt counting. I thought the jack had packed in, but then i heard it as i was pressing up\down, so its working fine. Because of this Its also not returning to the correct position when moving from sat to sat. Any ideas?

This is strange. Normally, if it commands movement and doesn't get a count back you'll hear the protection relay click and a error will be displayed saying which axis has failed. It will then need that axis to be re-set before it will energise that motor.

If you have a 'scope, check the pulses at the input. If present, it's something deeper in. The circuit is in the manual.

If you don't have any test gear, swap az and el jack connections and see what happens.

Worked wonders . Thanks . I also took the cover off the jack and found some H2O. But if it wasn't for your help I'd never have thought of it
 
it was the REED switch

if i turn the unit off (as it doesnt need to be on all the time, until i need to move the dish) - when i next switch on, the error will be there and need a reset. very very odd.

is there something i can clean inside perhaps, contact cleaner?? who knows - its a pain, but not a massive pain having to reset it every now and then.

i managed to get another unit (and the power light works) - so far, no issue, faulty internals on other RC2000 i reckon
 
Hoping not to bore anyone...i have 5 or 6 Rc2k
