Receiving Sirius and 28.2 E on a same dish.

Hello,

I have a 1.1 M fixed dish. My wife watches Viasat Nordic beam channels from Sirius ( 5 East), and I want some Indian channels through 28.2.

Is it possible to to use a following product:

And get both satellites on the same dish? Has somebody actually done it? As the difference between the Azimuths of Sirius and 28.2 is more than 25 degrees!!

What is your dish aligned on at the moment? I assume 4.8E. You can try it yourself, just hold an LNB in your hand and see if it can 28E. It has a chance of working. Maybe start with 13E and work your way out.
 
You are (generally) allowed two dishes, so a more definite solution would be to erect a 60cm dish for 28E.

Could work. If you have good LNBs.
You will need to center on 4.8E and see if you can pick up 28.2E (as 4.8E is by far the weakest where you are).
If this does not work for 28.2E you can start moving the center towards 28.2E.
But far easier to dedicate the 1.1m to 4.8E, and get a smaller dish (60cm) for 28.2E. That will definitely work.

What you mean by "we are allowed two dishes"? Is that the planning law you refer to?
 
Apart from the all too crucial word "generally", yes.

There are exceptions eg National Parks, Conservation Areas, over-riding requirements and constraints by Landlords.

One up to 1m (We won't quibble about the extra few cm!!) and another up to 60cm.

Depends which Indian channels you want - there are a few on 9E as well.
 
Star Plus, Sony, etc. Mainly Hindi channels/

What are on 9 E?
 
There are more on 28E than there are anywhere else thats possible here. Go to flysat.com, and check 9e for yourself.
 
Just one more eye opener. Astra needs elevation of 19.7 degrees and Sirius needs 24.xx degrees.

How is it possible to get both at the same time on the same dish? Sirius will be at the focal point.
 
Ever played pool or snooker? Microwaves reflect off the dish, The higher they come from the lower they bounce off, ditto the azimuth. The LNB can thus be placed at a lower position to get a satellite that has a higher eleveation, and vice versa.
 
You basically just put another lnb on the dish as in the picture. If the sat is higher in the Sky you put the lnb lower down on the dish, as in a mirror effect.

Which bit of Aberdeen are you in mate. I used to live in Bridge of Don so i know the area really well.

I can give you some pointers of what you can and cannot get away with there. I used to have quite a large dish in my back garden in the old D2MAC days pointing at either 5e or 1w :D

I know where you are :D Down near Badentoy industrial estate.

In all honesty i would just get a zone 2 Sky dish and set it up through a DISEqC switch so they can be used off the same receiver.

Even with the main focus on Sirius i think you may struggle with some of the channels off Astra 2A. 2D shouldn't be an issue there.

You may be able to do it with a Visiosat Bisat Dish or a wavefrontier torrodial dish, but i honestly think you will struggle getting them both on your 1.1m dish.

I would just try it and see if it works. Just connect up an lnb and hold it to the left and upwards of the main lnb (When standing infront of the dish, looking at it). You can use the sat meter function on the receiver. Most have them.

Make sure you double check you are seeing the right satellite as 19.2e will show a signal that will also lock on a non-sky box.

I just received the following part from the ebay today for offsettting my lnb for 28 east.

LNB A is at the focal point for Sirius. So where will the LNB B (for 28 east) go? Left of the Focal point or Right of it?

How do you calculate the focal length of the dish?
