Receiving Sirius and 28.2 E on a same dish.

Is there any frequency i can use to scan? when i did 11854 vertical, i also got FRANCE 5CINE + EMOTION, PARIS PREMIERE

To give you an idea (although not that clear), attached is a picture of one of my dishes; 5e, 13e, 19e & 28e. The two outer LNb's are for 5e and 28e.

So you get 5e and 28 e same time? Or you have to move the motor of your dish?
 
There is no motor, its a fixed system.
 
I would guess that your offset bar is too short. I say guess, because there is no LNB at the focus, so we don't know where the dish is pointed to.
 
Dish foscusses always on sirius.

If I was to focus on the 28 east, then it would look into the garden fence! Is that what is killing the signals right now also?

2. What does a satellite meter do, and which is the cheapest one for home use?
 
If the dish in the picture was focussed on 4.8E, and you picked up 19.2E on the offset lnb, you would not be able to get 28E, as the LNBs would need to be further apart, i.e the offset bar is too short.

Also, offset LNBs should point at the middle of the dish roughly, not wonky like yours.

TBH, any meters that may be cost effective to buy, would not be much better than your beeper. For DIY use, you are better off just using your sat box and old tv. You can identify the sat by what channels can be received, and tune to particular tranponders.
 
If I extend the offset arm somehow, then the LNB would not be looking at the dish anymore.

It is already pointing at the extreme edge. I tried all angles on the LNB axis at the far end, but no signal at all.

Apart from my brain, is the shape of dish wrong?

It would have been cheaper and easier to just buy a Sky Minidish. I really think even if you do get a signal of 28e that you are going to have a problem with some of the beams off Eurobird being so far north and trying to get it when its not on the main focus of the dish.

Yes of course as nano says a separate dish is the easiest, cheapest and a guaranteed way to get what you want.

But, if you wish to persue the offset LNB approach just for fun, then yes the LNB bar needs extending by the sound of it.

Firstly though, you need to get that bar fixed on properly, borrow a drill. Get both LNBs on there. The LNB shouldn't point towards the edge of the dish, it must point inwards towards the centre.

Robbo, can you please explain me the science of facing towards the centre?

If the focal point is looking at sirius, does it mean that all the waves are concentrated at the centre? Would that not imply that even if a LNB is on a different location, but focusing at the centre will receive waves from sirius?

I want to learn.

The focal point of the dish is where the main LNB is. When the dish is aligned to a satellite, the waves bounce off all of the dish and end up at the focal point.

But when you have an offset LNB, the whole of the dish is still used, but signals from satellites not on boresight, bounce off the dish at an opposite angle to the angle of incidence. They don't come to a focus though, more like a fuzzy cloud.

The LNB has an area of the dish that it illuminates, like a conical beam, if it isn't pointing to the centre of the dish, you will illuminate thin air, and thus capture less signal from the dish.

and yes, a sky box can be used for FTA on 28E.

I could have used my Pace receiver for FTA also. But wife says choose between the Pace or her. So I am reading adverts on Gumtree for a cheap box, so I can atleast play around.

Will the box still need a card for tuning purposes?

You are preaching to the converted there - I have many dishes configured in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways.

Not always the easiest and most expedient way of getting the desired functionality, but great fun!

No. There are only a few channels lets that require a Sky FTV card and Channel 5's channels should be FTA soon too. The most useful feature of the card soon will be no more than setting your local BBC/ITV channels.
