Receiving Sky On Demand in Spain

My Satellite Setup
Sky,1x Pace HD Box,2x Pace Boxes,1.3m Dish,Quad LNB,Satlook Micro G2,Ladder.
My Location
Malaga
Hello all, i am in Spain, I saw a friend of mine the other day and he said he had the latest Sky+ HD box an he could get on demand without a broadband connection is this correct ?
 
As far as I know, you require the Sky digibox to be connected to your router, as on demand material are fed via the internet.

Unless he's confusing on demand with box office.

But then they at Sky would know the box is situated abroad. I don´t think you can use a VPN in that way.
 
I have just got some on demand programs, if you navigate to the very top of the Sky interface and go to "on demand" a few programms do come up but not many. I think that is what my friend meant
 
There is content that is downloaded overnight via satellite to the hard drive on Sky boxes, it used to be called Sky Anytime.
 
You could use a vpn. If you have a pc running to a vpn plug the LAN cable into that pc.

You can use a VPN, we have members who use one for BBC iplayer as well, but that's not what was under discussion, it was whether on demand was available without internet connection.

There may well be anytime content available which has been written to the hard drive overnight as timo_w2s mentions, but this isnot really on demand, as you have no input as to what is downloaded to your digibox.

Hi,
My cousin is in Spain. How do you do that? The SKY Box has an ethernet connexion that connects
it into the router. How does he connect it into his PC?
The router has 4 ethernet sockets. If he plugs the SKY BOx into one of thse, with the PC as is into one of the
others, and has the VPN switched on, will that work (i.e. keep his location secret)?

The way I do it, is use a dedicated VPN router. WRT54GL running DDWRT and a HMA account for the VPN. Easenough to setup and works flawless. Additional yu ahve a a WiFi AP with UK IP address for your Apple TV, and other device wanting an IP from the UK, or any other country for that matter.

This has already been discussed at length in other areas of this forum.

Also what is:
1. DDWRT?
2. an HMA account?
3. A WiFi AP?

Sorry, not so well informed on computers etc as you clearly are, neither is my cousin in Spain.
the TV is an LG fitted with "NetCast"/

HMA - possibly Hide My Ass proxy service

WIFI Ap - wifi access point
 
The easiest solution is to set the router up using a uk based vpn - probably best to pay for a cheapish vpn as free proxies tend to be overloaded and erratic This gives you the required uk based ip address. Then you can connect the Sky box to the router and away you go.

Just to clarify for us simple mortals:
If the router is on the same network as the Smart TV and the PC, and the VPN application is launched, the Smart TV can be navigated to the BBC iplayer?

P.S. My cousin in Andalucia has bought a WRT-54GL router and with the help of MPN (My-Private-Network.co,uk)
flashed it with gthe DD software and the VPN software, and now has SKY "On-Demand" with no probs and
no buffering. FAB he says!

The router will need to have the vpn on it, not the pc. Think of the router as your gateway. Under normal circumstances your ip will be Spanish so your gateway will be Spain. The router vpn changes your gate to open into the UK. All your devices need to be the right side of the new gate.


But once you have a uk based ip then it should work.
 
Hi , I am new on this forum.
I live in Spain and I have a subscripttion to Sky.
I am trying to use On Demand service, I alwas had HTTP error 770 FORBIDDEN.
I was serching and I subscribed to HMA VPN service.
I hava an imac, , I run the progrm and I choose an UK network.
I share a local network and the option on sky is OK, OK, 192.168.2.2 and connect my skybox with imac with ethernet line.
I go to On Demand and I choose a program and stays SCHEDULED for a while, but appears FAILED minutes later with same error.
My router does not admit DD-WRT firmware, thus I chose the local network.
What am I doing wrong.?

Welcome to the forum

Unfortunately these halfway fixes rarely work properly.

Best tjhing to do is to do the jpob properly and get a vpn set up on a router.
