My Satellite Setup
90 cm triax dish
Satellite badr 3/4

80 cm dish for Hotbird

Hi,

location is Netherlands...what kind of dish (offset, gregorian??) and what size do i need for Nilesat/AB4 7 west..

i read some conflicting news...big dishes of 1.80 give the same results as offset dishes of 1.20, is that correct,,,what is the best?

and Offset dishes are maximally 1.20 m is that true?

same questions for Badr 6
 
I haven't read yet about anybody getting Badr 6 in the Netherlands. Without having tested nobody can tell you for sure but expect something really big beyond 1.80m. Have in mind that Badr 5 will be launched soon and nobody knows for sure if this satellite will be difficult to get as well.

Nilesat 101/102 instead should be fully receivable with 1.80m even in the most Northern part of NL. But be aware of the change to Nilesat 201 soon where no information is yet known.

AB4A has taken over the AB4 frequencies as well. This satellite looks also quite weak over Western Germany so you will need a big dish as well. How big i cannot tell you.

My recommendation:

P.S.: There are even professional Offset dishes of 3.70m. The bad performing 1.80m dishes you've heared about most probably were of low quality, or mesh type made for C-Band or cheap China made Fortec dishes. It's true that a high quality (of course more expensive) 1.20m can outperform these.
 
You will need to move further south to receive AB4A @ 7 west or maybe a 240cm dish :confused:

You should be able to receive some Nilesat verticals on your Triax 90cm, try 11861V.

thanks for the info...so is it true that offset dishes perform better than gregorians? and what about the existence of offset dishes of 180 or so?
 
No, gregorian dishes are more effective than offset dishes. But they quickly get very expensive in bigger sizes.

Offset dishes of 180cm or 240cm are made for example by ASC Signal: _http://www.ascsignal.com/html/vsat_pdfs.html
