Recieving Danish TV in UK

I'm new to satellite set-ups, I know very little about what you need even for a set-up to receive UK channels in the UK. I want to receive Danish TV in the UK - a simple goal. I suspect this is not as simple as pointing the satellite at the right area of the sky (although I would like to know where to point it?)

Could anyone let me know what I'd need to do this

Welcome to the forum.

Danish TV can be received via a number of satellites. Some paid and some free to air. Take a browse at the url below for a detailed list of channels available.

Once you've decided, from looking at the links in the previous Post, more specifically what you want, we should then be able to help advise you on equipment ie Receiver, Package Subscription, Dish Size, Installation info etc.

Hi, thanks for info so far. I just need some sort of basic package - it's for my Danish grandmother. So nothing fancy, just basic Danish TV channels (e.g. TV 2). We obviously get the American dramas that Danish TV seems awash with on the British channels Looking over the list the first one looks the most broad: Astra 4A (4.8E) - 11727.48 H - Txp: B1 - Beam: Europe But if anyone has any knowledge of Danish TV I'm open to recommendations

A receiver and card sourced and activated in Denmark, and a biggish dish as 11727 is on the Nordic beam and is fairly poor strength in the UK.

One of the lads who lives down London way will be able to advise on what size dish is appropriate.

Ok, thanks for all the info There's a satellite company offering to do a site survey of the property for about £50 - they want to make sure the satellite can be reached. My assumption is that these surveys are specific to the satellite that we want to use - they are saying there is one at 0.1W we should be using but the link posted here makes Astra 4A (4.8E) seem like a more attractive option for Danish TV. Is this site survey worth doing? Can anyone with knowledge of this tell me the most advisable satellite to use (just want any basic Danish TV channels - news, general etc.) ?

You can do the site survey yourself using information on this and other sites. The six degree difference between 1°w and 4.8°e hardly shows up on a site survey.

Not sure why you posted here. If you want to do the job yourself, people here will be extremely helpful to you however inexperienced you are. If you want the site surveyed and then the equipment installed by a professional then go there directly.

I posted here becuase I do want to do it myself and I don't really want to do a site survey, especially not now I know it is easy enough to do it myself

Simples if you want to get the Danish stuff cheaply :D

1m dish on 4.8e using a Dreambox 500 or other Linux based receiver.

Simply install Scam emu on to the receiver and you should be able to open some of the soft encrypted stuff including DR1 & DR2 :D

Cheers, that sounds like the route I'll go down then. I'm looking over information on the forums and found a bunch of stuff on Dreamboxs but what exactly is scam emu and where can I get it? (google search throws up a bunch of sketchy sites and very little info) Sorry, these probably sound like stupid questions. I have literally no experience with satellites. I know my way around a computer though so using a Linux based box sounds like a great idea.
