Hi Guys,

My dish lost signal after the strong winds when i went to check up the ladder the T bracket was becoming loose the bricks that it was attached to were moving!

I decided to change the T bracket position without touching the K bracket as that one was fine however now the aluminum pole is wobbly due to the fact that i lowered the T bracket ,... I Would like to re enforce it with another K bracket which i would like to put above the T bracket so I will have 3 brackets in order to give more support my dish is on the side of the house apex.
How high can i put the k bracket i read something in the past that you cannot go above so many bricks... cannot remember.

I want to have it secure as possible as this is a dangerous place with lots of wind.

Please see my pic for clarification

FWIW, if bricks were "moving" then the mortar between them has deteriorated, and that could mean that the top of the wall is in bad shape overall - and putting another bracket above the T-bracket could just make things a lot worse as it will put more stress on the brickwork, and that might lead to "disaster"!

If that is the case, then I think I would take everything down and get a builder in to permanently repair the wall before you do anything else.

Yup get that brickwork checked by someone who knows what they are doing. Its not unknown for a dish to pull the whole gable end wall down when the brickwork gives way!

It looks like you have lowered the T bracket more than once, without success.

Take it down and replace the pole for a piece of steel scaffold pole of a longer length, this will allow additional T/K brackets further down the wall without the need to drill more bricks on the gable section (which is often a single brick structure and not particularly strong with lateral forces)

Thanks for the feedback, I have another option as i really need to have tv on. Is to put the dish at the back of the house near the downpipe will be easier to access than apex please see pic, my only concern is will i get the arc as i need hispasat and astra. as you can see my dish is pretty straight on THOR see previous pic. I will use my current tk brackret and pole to raise it above the gutter.

How about 2 dishes one at the front & one at the back?

The dish is fine where it is, since your roof pitch is running North/south it really needs to stay where it is. You could reposition it slightly either side of the ridge without losing the two most important satellites but you will start losing part of the arc at low horizon, whilst it is unlikely to prevent what is already happening, you could install the new T/Ks and scaffold pole straight away and then move the dish over in one go.

Did you check the elevation that the 30W signal comes in, against the slope of the roof (and the position of the chimney)?

ideally want to move it at the back wife not happy to noisy and she is scrared that it will fall. see picks bricks not in good shape... 2 dishes no option
@a33 no sure howtodo it?

If the brickwork is indeed poor as you say then you need to get that dish down asap before something fails and it does some serious damage. Then get a brickie in to fix it.

You might get 30W over the roof if you can get far enough down the garden. Remember the dish doesnt need to be high up - all of mine are at ground level. You can hide them behind plants as long as you dont let the foliage straggle over them too much

Thanks not looking good then...

Will this be safe to do? I manage to get hold off a scaffolding pole won't that pole put more pressure on the wall than an aluminium one?
as you suggested i will reposition it slightly west

I will send you a picture of my garden however not looking best in my opinion but i will appreciate you advice

Not at all, I did mention the bracketry could be bolted further down the wall without sacrificing post rigidity (ooooerr) . The weight of the pole itself is insignificant if you are fitting two sets of T/Ks and they are all securely mounted

If the brick wall's mortar where the "T" and "K" brackets are located has lost it's grip on the bricks (old wall) you should spread the load out across the wall, that pole is acting as a lever, it will affect the bricks no matter where you mount the brackets.

In cases like this I use what is called Uni-strut, it is a "U" shaped steel channel used by contractors to hold pipes and electrical conduit wiring, it is very strong and using the channel nuts that are meant to be used with it you can spread the load out along the wall.

The bottom of the uni-strut has holes to allow bolts to be put through, the "T" and "K" brackets can be attached to the uni-strut with the channel nuts, then using 6 or more brick anchors to hold the uni-strut to the wall you would spread the load out and the bricks will not come loose.

This is what I'm talking about....Unistrut U.K.

Several pieces about 1.5 to 2 metres long mounted horizontal where the "T" and "K" brackets would be located should work out nicely.

Gable end walls are never so strong as the walls holding the weight of the roof. The weight of the roof which is several tons holds the brickwork firm. Gable end are simply bricks stacked with a bit of mortar holding them. Try to come away from the corner as far as you can.

That whole wall could do with repointing. Years of exposure to elements will have eroded these...

Yes but the mortar mix is weak and re pointing will still leave him with an unstable wall for a satellite mount. Best to re point anyway.

i came with another solution to put it on top of my shed will be easier to maintain and will keep the arc. I found this in toolstation TV Aerial Tile & Slate Clamp what are your thoughts?
