All beer and non beer guzzlers would remember that an English Land lady won her case against the Sky to continue showing Sports channel in her pub, which she received from mainland Europe at cheaper price.

Taking off from the same idea, can some one please point me in the direction, on how to receive Indian channels legally, but cheap from Abroad. Some said card sharing, but I said a big No.

Any way around? but a legal loophole?

Cheers

You cant get Indian channels direct via satellite, apart from the ones transmitting on the European satellites. Most of them are on 28E (Sky) & 9E.

A few are available via their web streams:

but the quality would be pretty horrible on anything bigger than a decent sized computer monitor!

If you have friends / famly in India a slingbox might be an answer if you have decent broadband upload speeds at the other end

Can't help with your direct question but she did NOT win her case to be allowed to show programmes in her pub. In fact it was the complete opposite - commercial use of a private card was denied. It's only personal use of cards across borders that's been declared legal.

Which channels do you want??

Many of the Indian channels on 28E are premium pay channels.

Its a place shifting device. Connect it to a satellite system in a remote location (eg India) and shift the programming in real time to the UK via broadband.

You need a fast link at the far end - the faster the better. Ive tried it with a 380kbps upload and its hopeless.

I was on a business trip to India couple of months ago. I was able to get Tata Sky package activated w/o actual instalation and local citizenship, by just bribing sales clerk - it cost me 1000 rupees (around 10 pounds maybe?) :)

Yes that one is available here.

We really need yeshu to tell us what channels are required - then we can advise further.

You need a Sky UK subscription for those.

The 3 Star channels are in the Sky basic pack, I think most of the rest are in the ViewAsia pack which is an additional 20 quid a month or so.

So you are looking at around 45 quid a month in subscriptions. This is for a domestic installation. For commercial use you will need to speak to the Sky commercial subscriptions dept.

Just out of curiosity, does Sky prosecute end consumers also, or just the people who actually resell the card share subscriptions?

Hi

I am purely asking out of curiosity, and nothing else.

I think Analoguesat mentioned somewhere, that those who use cardhshare, their Ip address is recorded on the server.

What if someone used "a proxy" or "anonymiser"?

Again, no malice just pure curiosity.

Haven't heard of anyone doing it yet. it's mainly the servers they go after not the users but all it takes is for them to say "from now on we'll go for both" and that's it

In theory will a proxy server provide security to the end user?

A lot of proxy servers do keep logs. So police can go and ask them for these logs.

This Thread has pushed hard at the boundaries of what we will permit here and I am closing it.

The OP now has sufficient information to satisfy the original question.

Already started - two big card share rings were taken down abroad recently and the police have been visiting the customers as well as the operators. The news is on the forum somewhere
