Finally got around to getting shot of two Creda "Slimline" (Are they hell!) that we inherited when buying our gaff 15 years ago. Only kept them as an alternative heating source lest the oil boiler become forked, but we haven't actually used them for around 10 years as we've now got a couple of portable LPG heaters instead. I realised I'd have to dismantle them in situ in order to remove, bit by bit, the considerable weight of the bricks but, immediately upon removing panels, hit upon the potential issue of asbestos. Checked the model number against various lists and ascertained these were 1984-87 models, manufactured since asbestos was outlawed. Nevertheless, the insulation crumbled into dust when disturbed and I removed two bin bags full of the stuff! All dismantled now, awaiting disposal at the tip in due course. But one task that remains is removal of the upper mounting plate which has been pinned to the breeze-block wall using some meaty form of fastener which has no screw head and looks more like a rivet head. I assume these have been driven deep into the wall and I have no idea how to remove them. Any suggestions (sensible .....)?
