Resetting Dreambox 800

My Satellite Setup
Dreambox DM.800 receiving Astra 28 satellite signal (I think)
My Location
Malta
The other night I had sound but no picture from my Dreambox. (I live in Malta, by the way) and thinking it was a problem at my end I did what I shouldn't have done. I tinkered.

Eventually, my t.v. screen went green with a message, in English, saying the box has encountered a software problem and needs re-setting. I phoned my installer who said unplug it then plug it back in and it will be o.k. I did, and it isn't.

What I have now is a screen with BLACKHOLE across the middle, the words STARTING ENIGMA II at the top and DREAM ELITE at the bottom. If I press the up arrow on my remote I get a CHANNEL SELECTION TV heading with 4 coloured sub-headings that I think are in Spanish and under that FAVOURITES (TV). If I press my green button the FAVOURITES (TV) disappears, to be replaced by CURRENT TRANSPONDER.

Exiting that screen and going back to the first one, then pressing the blue button I get DREAM ELITE BLUE PANEL, but that doesn't seem to lead me anywhere.

Can anybody give me an idea how I might get back to my British Sky t.v. through the Astra satellite (I think Astra 32 but I can't be sure about that)?

More than one month has passed without any reply.
I hope that you have managed to sort out the problem.

It looks like your box is working but not showing any pictures.

Try to remove the cable coming down from the LNB and connect it to another box the make sure that you are having a signal from the dish.

Go to any free to air channel and see if you are geting an image.

Interesting it would appear that this post has somehow slipped through the net. It does seem that your installer could have been a tad more helpful and indeed possibly has been in the intervening month, however from the information given I strongly suspect this was probably some sort of commercial cardshare operation discussion of which would not have been allowed in any case as it is contrary to forum rules and was probably the reason members were reluctant to respond in the first place.

In fact, what transpired was that somehow the box had lost ALL of its programming and had to have everything re-installed.

I had it back towards the end of February and as long as the wind here in Malta is not howling, it works perfectly.

But, thank you for replying to my original post.

Good to hear you are up and running, perhaps the stb has an EEprom fault, I would certainly monitor that situation

Glad that things got sorted out.

Regarding the problem with strong wind, try having your dish repositioned or sheilded from the wind.
For now make sure that you have a very strong support mount and secure bolts.
The dish should be vibration-free.
A slightly larger dish can compensate for minor signal loss.
Remember that you are pointing at an object 36.000 Km above earth.

I don't think my landlord would be too keen on the idea of me creating some sort of shield around my dish. It's sited on the flat roof of my apartment block and the back of it faces north towards Sicily, where the winter winds tend to come from.

The signal strength on Sky Movies is only around 30 - 35% which cannot cope with strong wind but at least all my Sports channels are up around 95% and they have no problems at all.

If you have a water tank installed on the roof, you can move the dish so that the water tank acts as a sheild.
Just an idea.

I'm seriously wondering wether this Dreambox business is worth all the hassle.

I've had no t.v. since Wednesday, apart from Renault t.v. which never fails to work. EVERY other channel is blank although the information that the Dreambox is giving me at the bottom of the screen leads me to believe that the box thinks it's getting a signal, but it isn't.

On this occasion, I'm suspecting a much greater problem than simply my box.

My installer is not answering his phone or his mobile...........

Try another box.
This will tell you if your box is having any problems.
You could also try another image after making a back up of your existing image.

A Dreambox witout support is a nightmare!

There is definitely nothing wrong with the box. Not only do I get Renault t.v. but I discovered yesterday that I get S4C and a few non-Sky movie channels.

A friend sent me this link:

This could well have something to do with it.
