Advice Needed Restarting my unused Dish

Hi everyone, i have not used a sat forum for a very long time and am well out of touch with all things Multi sat related. I need some advice please on the best way to restart my 1Mtr 36v motorised dish.

maybe 3 years ago my Technomate 5000DAPCI went pop, i moved the LNB cable from the technomate and routed it into my PC which has a sat card installed, the dish ever since has been sat at 28.2 and largely unused if i am honest. This morning i got a bee in my bonnet, i would like to watch some cars that make noise and go round and round and are very boring according to my wife.

I fired up my Media Center PC and ran a full transponder scan, this turned up hundreds of new channels, currently i am watching sky news via the sat card and the 1Mtr dish, stage 1, LNB seems to be working ok

Now i need to move the dish to 19.2 i believe, i had a read around the net this morning and from what i read in 2014, 19.2 RT* seems to be where i need to be looking for this years round and round noisy events ??

a couple of questions, presently i have NO positioner, is there any way i can move the dish safely with a home made something or other and also IF i am successful in moving the dish what are the exact specs needed to view the channel that shows the round round boring noisy events, i dont think my old sat card is S2, infact i cant even remember which card is installed ( Update Videomate S350 ), it does have Diseqc capabilities which is something i had a quick look at this morning, i was thinking of a cheap Diseqc to 36V positioner but i dont want to spend much as i am not really looking to get back into Feed hunting anytime soon

Any help advice or encouragement would be much appreciated

Why not just get a V-BoxII positioner, this can be used as a stand alone positioner, so you can move the dish using just the V-Box II or connect it to your receiver and control it using Diseqc 1.2 commands.
How old is your 36v motor? To check the motor still works, or to position the dish, try using a battery, I used the one from my security alarm, to test an old 1224 motor.
 
Two slightly off topic points....

RTL on 19.2E is FTA in SD so your card should be compatible with that....(the HD version is subscription only)..the 'noisy, round and round things' don't begin till next weekend so that gives you a week to sort your dish out.
 
thanks guys, and not off topic at all thats exactly what i needed to hear, no point going through the pains to find my old sat card is not compatable.

I just text my sparky mate, hopefully he will help me swing the dish, how the heck i am going to find 19 deg is yet to be figured out, is it left a bit or right a bit from 28.2 ?? its going to be one of those guess jobs which take forever with retunes
 
You just move the dish 9 degrees East, to the left, as standing facing the dish, right if behind the dish,
If you just want 19.2E, and 28.2E, why not just add a second LNB, and a Diseqc switch?

As merntioned I just useed an old burglar alarm battery to test my motor was working, by connecting the M1 and M2, or M+ and M-, wiresd to positive and negative.
You do need to watch the dish to see if you're moving East, or West, unless you have marked the wires.
 
Thanks Mickha thats lovely, a second LNB is just more hasstle than i want to put in, its not a life or death thing and if i can do it for the grand sum of £0 i would be very happy, i dont use the old gal for much these days so it would be nice to just get her to swing a bit to the left and give me something useful for a change, 9 times this year i wont be needing it but the rest of the time it would be nice, i like complexity as well, so the Media Center PC is already hooked up to my old Xbox360 which in turn is hooked up to my Xbox1, i like making things work so to me at least i would be very very happy if i could watch roundy roundy noisy noisy boring on my xbox1 ... stupid i know but satisfying :)
 
You'll also need to raise the dish elevation a couple of degrees to hit the arc efficiently.
 
Thanks for all your help guys, my mate the sparky came round, we borrowed his brothers sat meter ( an aeriel installer ) and with the help of a 18v battery from my drill we jiggled it round to just the right spot :) guide listings are being stubborn and not downloading at the mo in WMC7 but that really is not an issue, i have what i need and for when i need it :-whipb maybe not an appropriate smiley but it looked good to me :-applause
