Resurrecting a Legacy X86 PC..

No reason why it won't work for Windows. There are plenty of such adapters being used for Acorn and Amiga machines with no issues.

I just popped an MP3 and MP4 on a usb stick ..
I had already tried internet access and a google search ..
That was fine with the MINT CF OS ...
The MP3 played just fine ...but only the audio was smooth on MP4 playback ..
The video ..not..
So perhaps the CF access time is an issue here ..?
Or the mobo is a problem ..
?
I have already got mint 15 on one of the attached conventional hard drives ..so the CF as a limitation can be eliminated ..
I'll try that this evening.
Got to go open the shop in 10 minutes..
Does anyone know the hardware minimum requirements for Mint 15 ?

No idea .... I'm on 18.1 and about to upgrade to 18.2.

But, whilst awaiting the Upgrade path, during my visits to the Linux Mint sites and blogs I noticed in passing they did contain Hardware requirements for current releases.

So I suspect there will be archive material relating to said requirements vis-a-vis (Actually, seeing as it's VS, viz-a-viz!) for old releases.

I'm off out for a walk, so will check you've cracked it when I get back ;)

Chameleon meets those requirements easily ..which is why I chose an earlier version of mint ..
though they aren't specific about cpu ..
mine being an Athlon ..not a pentium ..
It may well be CF access time at issue ..
I'll test the same files with Mint15 on a conventional build (hard drive) over the weekend ..to eliminate or confirm..

So tested the same files on the usb stick using Mint15 installed on a conventional hard drive ..
Exactly the smae results ..
So ..either mint doesn't like this video format ..or the hardware in chameleon is unsuitable in some way..
?
I'd like to try VLC in Mint before I condemn anything else ..
Is it installed by default during the build ?
If not ..then how can I add it ..
remember I am a Linux/Mint novice so be gentle with me G

Use the Synaptic Package Manager to add VLC, or, if it was there in that version, there's a Program (sic) Manager with a better graphical interface.

Just opened something called 'software manager' ..
required my admin password...

Just stick VLC in the search box and Bob is the name we used to give to the silver shilling.

Problem solved ...the default player is pants with MP4 ..but VLC has no probs with it ..

Yes, you can, I have 95c running off a CF card inside my Toshiba Libretto 50ct and it works perfectly, the only minor drawback is the CF card I'm using doesn't support the IDE activity LED function so the HDD LED is always lit, but that's a minor problem that doesn't bother me... :)

Sacrificed Romtek switch 1 to give CF access ...currently 30gb resident mint 15 ..
Switch 2 for 3.1/95/ME
Switch 3 for 98/2K/XPpro
I'd say CHAMELEON is pretty close to earning the name...

..and there were five updates waiting ..
More patches for ransomeware perhaps ?
 
All seems like a doddle compared to getting windows 8.1 to run on a chinese keyboard PC (upgrading from Spydows10), well, the audio drivers that is, rest of the system runs, just no onboard sound (HDMI sound works though), but that's what happens when china turns tablet PC hardware into a "desktop" computer... :-doh

I hate software, hardware is much more fun...

Well one is .net update which appears to transform your XP machine into a Win10 snoop machine
