Saorsat and Tooway

Since Saorsat is going to use the KA-band Irish spotbeam for TV does that mean Tooway broadband will suffer in Ireland?

PS. Yes, I know I spelt Saorsat wrong in the title but I can't change it now!
 
I doubt it because there will be sufficient frequency seperation between the two services so as not to cause interferance. And I don't think at this point capacity will be a problem either.

But surely the TV services will take away a large chunk of bandwidth?
 
From what little I've read on the subject ...I doubt it ...
I believe it will operate much like a mobile phone service ...with the ability to lock on to the stronger _intended_ signal ...and ignore or lock out other overlap footprints ..
In other words ...like a mobile phone ...it would identify and lock onto the closest 'Mast' ..or broadcast source ...to the exclusion of all else...digitally (packet identification)
...course ...I maybe widely off beam ....err ..pardon the pun

There are huge amounts of bandwith available at Ka band frequencies.
 
Ah OK, I was under the impression that each spot had just a couple of traditional multiplexes worth of TV.

Anyone know of other plans for KA Sat other than Internet and Irish TV? If it works well for the Irish, I wonder if other countries might think about trying a similar setup?
 
It's the future, makes sense to broadcasters and rights holders.
