Saorsat received way off footprint

Either way, a hell of a catch! I have no chance here in north Somerset/sw Bristol as far as I am aware so was very surprised to read your findings.
 
Ok ..
I have reassembled the hughes/OMT ..and currently letting the depolariser/filter mod set .
A liquid plastic collar to attach the inverto feed to ..
Which is currently in use on the SL3 so will have to borrow this.
btw I was right in my suspicions I think ..
Looking at old photos of the Hughes I bought ..the depolariser is set to receive the opposite polarisation to yours Llew ..
Easily fixed of course as the depolariser has settings for RHCP and LHCP.
Final question for you Llew ..
When you carved up your Inverto ...did you retain any of the septum feed inside the waveguide throat ..or did you remove it entirely..
I ask because this may also be a factor in your amazing results.

Septum removed completely VS. Have to go out soon, but in lieu of pics, the mating of the butt end of the feedhorn and polariser was difficult for me, as there was no easy way of attaching the feedhorn to the polariser - I only had a small square section of the end of the feedhorn left when I sawed it off the LNB.
So I bent at right angles two pieces of ali sheet and screwed it onto the polariser after removing four screws from each side and using longer screws to attach the ali brackets to. Suitable fixing holes were already on the feedhorn where I use it to attach the XMW LNB.
 
Maybe you could adapt my liquid plastic method ..
Not drilled yet and in your case ..no flange ..but I'm sure you could improvise..

If you have _anything_ left at the lnb end of the inverto feed ..
You can pot it in liquid plastic as I have the polariser end ...
drill both ..and bolt together..

So ...having set up my hughes exactly as yours is Llew ...I'm ready to test it IF the rain ever lets up..
The feed is currently the only real difference ..as I've chosen to do my first test using the All Copper feed I constructed ..based on the Inverto ..
If I get even a hint of anything I'll borrow the Inverto feed off the SL3

..any further reports that you still get Saorsat would be useful and prove it wasn't freak conditions.

Here's my offering VS.

I only had the tube left of the end of the feedhorn, so I sawed the shoulder off what remained of the LNB and Araldited it to the tube of the feedhorn. That's how I bolted it to the XMB LNB. Now with the Hughes assembly, I've clamped it to the polariser, and as you can see, it's just a crude nut and bolt affair. Wouldn't mind having a try with plastic paste as in your excellent job - what's the name of the plastic stuff?

Cheers VS, yes, it could be a very useful item for a lot of projects. I'm still wary of leaving my assembly on the dish as it stands. I'm surprised it hasn't snapped off yet where it's held on by the Araldite.

..If you do use it Llew .
Make sure you mix exactly equal quantities..
I use the containers screw caps to measure out making sure not to mix the caps up and wipe out with kitchen roll immediately...
This prevents the tops seizing up on the bottles.

Thanks for the tip mate. Fine day here, so I'll see what's what with it on the dish. I don't expect anything as unusual as yesterday though.

Hmm ...not even getting the same peaks as you Llew ...
Will wait to see if you still receive it ..and some more graphical full scans

Much the same as this morning VS. Good strong signal, empty of anything interesting...

Yep ..looks very much like what I used to get last year with a strong signal empty carrier..
Or as I called it ..
The jamming signal..
I rather suspect what you saw was a brief test of the beam with RTE before switching over to what you see now.
You were in the right place at the right time..
Might be worth monitoring occasionally ..but chances are that was a one off.

Just shows you though ..how compact those beams are ..
I can't even detect your local empty carrier here.

That's my next try. Much rain at present, will have to wait for later.
 
Great catch @Llew , any chance of an update to confirm if you're still able to receive signal?
