My Satellite Setup
1980s 1.5m offset dish, single output black ultra on a homemade sturdy mount, getting all channels 24/7 from sky with a pace digibox but no subscription so only bbc1,2 itv etc.

Hi guys, back in the uk now, great weather here!
Looking for advice as to co ax connections. All my standard coax terminate in the loft with an amp/splitter that goes out to the aerial outside. 8 standard coax for fta dig which I get a good signal for.
The missus want sky, can I connect the dish to the 8 standard coax to then produce the required result at the 8 sky box's at the other end in various rooms?
 
It depends on whether the existing cable is good enough. If its the cheap low loss single screened stuff, then probably not. If it is double screened eg RG6 type, then yes it should work.
 
The splitter won't be of much use to you though, as you can't split a satellite feed like you can with terrestrial. You would need an Octo LNB on the dish to serve all outputs at once, or swap the cables about in the loft to serve the room(s) you want. The other points could then be left as they are for terrestrial signals. Provided ofcourse your cable is up to it, as Robbo says.
 
I am afraid its only standard co ax for standard tv, non starter then?
 
Whilst it's recommended to use double screened coaxial for IF signals [copper/copper even better], it must be said that some of the older standard coax MAY be up to the job, typically the 1.25mm stuff. Without seeing it, it will be hard to tell.

Options are as mentioned, Octo LNb or a multiswitch to serve the 8 points. You can also use a quad LNb with Dip2's in the loft to 4 TV points serving terrestrial and satellite.

Maybe you could post a picture showing the cable in question.
