A relative mentioned seeing this dish - on the roofs above an electrical retailers in a small dales market town 25 miles or so from where i live - so i had a drive out this afternoon to check it out --
i thought at first it was another "Alcoa" - but on close inspection of the pics there are small differences in the l.n.b.holder and rod support brackets -- dish panels etc -- and the dish mount is very different - to my fixed mount or Vipersan,s polar mount - i think its a 1.8 but it could be a little smaller - maybe 1.6 ?
anyone recognise it ? -- :)

It looks to be mounted to the roof some how and is motorised on a 3inch pole.

The dish looks to be a fortec star petal type.

I wonder what it's being used for ?

Jeepers, I'd be seriously worried about that in a strong gale. I'd pop into the shop and suggest that the dish is potentially a hazard and you could both remove it and "dispose" of it for a small fee.........

can,t really see -- it sits in a gully between other roofs - and the pole appears to be partly set in concrete - i could only take pics form 2 places - from quite a distance - and was using full 16x optical zoom on the original pics --

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

From the feed and the polar mount, I would say that is possibly a very early IRTE 1.8m petalised dish (sometimes badged Ferguson or NEC).

The gain wasn't much better than the 1.5m they brought out a few months later, and the bearings used in the polarmount were horrible.

Not surprised it had you fooled Nelson m8..
certainly has the look of an alcoa ..apart from the mount and feed attachment that is..
Looks like it's been positively identified ..but it certainly would have had me wondering..

Looks a bit beaten up on one edge, but seems to have a nice 90degree alcove to hide in

I've uploaded copy from a Swedish magazin in 1987 where the NEC dish is reviewed among others.

@Vipersan, the mesh 1.8m dish in the test and on first picture with logo Transnova is from Alcoa, they made both solid and mesh of the 1.8m, they sold tons of Alcoas here back in the 80's. there are some with extension panels left here on the roofs.

if you could get hold of the extension panels I'm sure vipersan would be very interested in them.

Man ... I take my hat off to someone who not only keeps his trade (or hobby) mags from 1987, but also remember the contents of them, and can dig the relevant stuff out in a mere hour or two. Very impressive!

Yes and Fortecstar cloned the IRTE one and made a bad 1.8m, chineses steal our jobs, our products design, you name it...

Fortecstar is just a purchasing company for the 1.8m and 2.4m dishes. The production company is Jonsa and they sell to almost anyone willing to pay for a container load of them.

Their design is actually OK for C band reception in areas where there isn't much wind, or salt corrosion.
