Hi everyone,
I need some help. I’ve got a tv with built in satellite. It’s picking up around 300 channels but there all odd ones, I can’t get the normal 1-5 and others you’d expect. It’s searched it on Astra 2 but I’m sure I’m missing something ( I’m new to this ) . Could anyone help? Thanks in advance

So long as your dish is pointing at 28.2 east you will get FreeSat in the UK 195 TV & Radio channels,
When you start the satellite scan you will normally see 2 options,
Satellite Auto Tuning >> now choose from FreeSat or DVB-S /All FTA
If you choose FreeSat your nomal TV list will be in sequence like the one below BBC-1/BBC-2/ITV ect.

I have to select the options to scan, either lnb only or diseqc. I then have to select what I want to search within there eg Astra 2

What have you plugged the TV/satellite tuner into? Is it a pre-existing $ly installation that was known to be working before, for instance? How long ago was it installed?

It was pre existing. Not sure on how old as she’s only just moved in but landlord said that’s what the previous people used as there’s no aerial on the house. It’s two f type connectors that have been ran in from the dish

Welcome to the forum Ashley!

Odd ones meaning 'odd british channels', or foreign channels?

If foreign channels, please name (half) a dozen names, please, to check from what satellite they are.

Sure, I’ll do it tonight when I’m over there. Some are British and some are foreign. It picks up say hold, Dave, history, Nat geo, qvc. And then some foreign ones too. Some channels have a few random numbers as a name with +1 at the end as well. When I tuned I put it on Astra 2 and then universal. I’ve tried other frequency’s too but doesn’t seem to make a difference.

The way you might be able to tell is by trying another scan on the second cable coming in. If they are different to the first then you - almost certainly - have a SkyQ dish on the roof.

Then you will need to get a converter box to sit behind the TV.

Perfect I’m sure I’ve done that but I’ll try again tonight. If so what sort of converter box do I need?

Just a thought, if I have a sky q dish/lnb would it pick up any channels at all? Or would it just pick some up?

Since the local oscillator is not far off the upper band (10.41 rather than 10.6) there will be a group of channels roughly one quarter of the total amount receivable
