My Satellite Setup
Looking for help in installing my satellite tv system.
My Location
Mauritius
Hello Friend,,

It's a great pleasure for that you are reading this mail.

I'm writing to you to solicit your help.
In fact I'm in Mauritius, a small island in the Indian Ocean.
The only satellite tv available is the paid French CanalSat, which doesn't worth the £45 monthly rental.
Since quite a long, I'm having in mind to buy from the net, a satellite receiver, a satellite dish(with a rotating motor) to capture as many free satellites channels from all over the world.
Unfortunately I'm having very little knowledge about satellite tv installation.

So could you please help to learn the basics(regional satellite coverage, receiver choices, etc) to succeed in satellites tv installation.

I would like to thank you in advance and I hope to honored by your reply.

Kind Regards,
Riad.

Hello Riad, welcome to the forum. Ive split your post off the 5 year old thread as it needs its own topic.

The main problem you have in Mauritius is that very few satellites cover your area. If you are hoping to get thousands of channels like we get here in Europe I think you are going to be disappointed.

Analoguesat is correct. Not many channels here. But for C-band (motorised dish)you'll get some channels on AB3,Arabsat 20E,Amos5,NSS12,IS 906, IS7/10(very disappointing now),IS17( many Tamils),Apstar2R,Thaicom(most channels here) and even the far east Measat.
For KU band it's very difficult...W3A,W2A(MGM), W3C ( >25 channels FTA with 1m20/1m50), W4/W7, IS7/10. Go lyngsat.com for coverage. Try to learn on forums.
If you buy, take DVB-S2/HD receiver.
Where are you in Mauritius?

Hello patmos,
Thanks a lot for ur reply.
Im from Montagne Blanche.
So could you plz advice me on how to proceed in this adventure.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,
jhummun

How to proceed depends on exactly what you want - you are VERY limited as to whats available in Mauritius.

Well, my passport is up to date, and I can spend some time (probably only a month or so at the end of May).

If you cover the cost of flights/hire car and some 4* accomodation with meals/evening entertainment, I'm sure I can set up a decent system if we start planning now on what to ship over beforehand.

Exactly as Analoguesat said it all depends on what u want. I've seen people very eager to start then get disappointed as they did not get what they wanted. So be cautious before investing.

Hi Patmos,

Are you able to watch European football from your setup from other operators than those based in Mauritius? For instance, i know that Al-Jazeera sports transmit footballs in clear (i.e. not encrypted). If so could you share with how i could go about as well?

Thanks in advance and hear from you.

unfortunately no. we cannot get AB7 satellite here where I think you can get the FTA channels. Football is only on canalsat and DSTV. Some channels like RDV on w4 does broadcast some epl matches live.
For your info Al Jazeera sport called BeIn Sport will be on Parabole package. So after 2013 i'm not sure Canalsat will have the right for epl matches along with BeIn sPORT. So people will change their package soon.
