Hello All, well is it finished ? I am near Malaga and as yet there are no reports of dish sizes needed in fact the general feeling is that we will never get Sky again. We are all using computers and buying streaming boxes so is this the way it will be ?

Finished in Spain? No.

Finished in some parts of Spain? Well things certainly won't get better. And the launch of Astra 2G later this year probably won't help.

But there are winners as well as losers and the effects of 2E, although disastrous for some, were nowhere near as bad as anticipated for a great many more.

And "Sky" is a bit broad brush as the main Channel groups involved in the latest negative changes were UK PSBs.

All satellite signals nice and fine on the Costa Blanca...so in answer to your question "Satellite viewing finished in Spain ?" the answer is No - well not in this area!

Sky doesnt not equal BBC / ITV etc. Nearly all the pay stuff should be nice and strong for you on the Europe beam.

UK PSB's via satellite in some parts of Spain - yup game over for you now. Unless you can find some suitable internet rebroadcast you will have to do without

(and I can see the Beeb et all going after FilmOn and such sites now)

Maybe. But will take years and $ - only to be replaced by yet a-n-other internet site offering same.

Hello all. This is my first time posting. First, thanks Rolf for accepting that I'm not a spammer! Anyway, I'll try and be brief.

Bit of background about me: I live about 15 kms from Bilbao in the north of Spain, and lost all the freesat channels when Astra 2E started broadcasting the freesat channels. I contacted the installer, explained the situation, but haven't heard from him since. Contacted another, ditto.

On the reception maps there is someone using a 1.5 metre dish just south of San Sebastian, then nothing until a report of a 1.8 metre dish in north west Galicia. Strangely, there is a report of a 1,2 metre dish in Salamanca receiving ok, even though that must be further south. I read somewhere that there were lines of no reception - kind of like isobars on a weather map, and I might actually be right under one, so I suppose that might affect things.

I won't trouble anyone with questions about a set up unless it might be possible, but am I right in thinking that unless I pay a good installer to fit and align a 1,5 metre dish, I cannot really know? Forgive my technical ignorance.

I would welcome any help. Thanks for your time.

Colin

Hi, This long thread should help you a wee bit:-
http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/threads/astra-2e-iberia-balearics-reports.159949/page-8

Especially look at Analoguesat's link to map and associated text giving dish size colour codings:-
http://www.satandpcguy.com/Site/astra_2e_satellite_reception_footprint_uk_tv_spain.php

Looks like 1.5m to 2.0m where you are but it is safer if you look around the area you are in and see if you can spot large dishes and enquire where it is aligned too. If you have other expats in the area then they hopefully can advise their state.

We on the Costa Blanca have similar questions/ doubts about dish size especiañlly at the mo as things have deteriorated of late.

Guess it is the same old thing 'size matters'.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for replying so quickly. Sorry it has taken me a while to reply. I'll read the thread and decide what I can do.
Cheers
