Dear all,

I'm writing this topic just to hear the comments from the people that have used satlink meters and to all of you who are willing to make my decision easier

It's been a month I've been trying to buy satlink meter 6932 HD and I can't find the original company's website anywhere on the web. Many shops online yes but not an official page. What's your experience with satlink meters?? Especially satlink 6932 since I'm interested in this product.

I'm new to the satellite hobby and I need your advice guys. I want a good meter not much more than the price of 280 euros which is my maximum. Is there anything better I can get for that amount of money??

Are there Chinese ones and original ones?? Some on the net claim to be original and others not.
I'm I right thinking that satlink is only Chinese company and everybody buys from china??
Also some suppliers provide you with updates and others not.

What's the best sat meter in can get for that amount of money?

Thanks in advance!

They are cheap but beware-they have a habit of breaking down at any moment-there appears to be no after sales help from this Chinese company. I've had my satlink ws6906 for over a year and it still performs perfectly, but if it died tomorrow it wouldnt surprise me. There are better more reliable meters out there , but it depends on just how much you will use it. No point spending a lot on a fancy meter if its going to sit on a shelf for most of its life.

I know of a satellite firm who has lots of these satlinks which are faulty-- the chinese wont answer them about getting them fixed/repaired/replaced. It seems they just want to sell them and forget. As i say mine has been no bother at all, i have done the odd install with it, but its used for my hobby when i need to check both dish alighments after stormy weather. So its used monthly probably.

A good company to buy a Satlink meter from is this:

Code:
http://www.satlink.de/

They offer a repair/upgrade service and have an active Support and Download Forum covering both English and German (
Code:
http://satlink-forum.de/index.php/BoardList/
). I sent them my WS-6908 DVB-S to be upgraded to a WS-6930 DVB-HD on the 13 March and received a DHL notification on the 17 March advising that the upgraded unit was on its way back to me.

When you purchase a Satlink product from them you gain full access to the Forum otherwise you first have to create an account for a small, one-time, fee.

Hope you find the above info useful.

Regards

How much did it cost you for an upgrade?

Hi Marcoo,

The cost depends on what you want doing. Full details here:
http://satlink-forum.de/index.php/Thread/618-Upgrade-WS-6908-zu-WS-6926/?postID=2542#post2542

The thread is in German but a translation reads as follows:
"Hello again,
So I like to provide this service because now more and more HD channels are added. With a normal digital meter you can in the future do less and less. The options could include:
>WS-6908 to WS-6926 (without key illumination, without a flashlight function) with an intact motherboard = 70 EUR <> with a defective motherboard = 80 EUR*
>WS-6908 to WS-922 or WS-6930 (without key illumination, without a flashlight function) with an intact motherboard = 80 EUR <> with a defective motherboard = 90 EUR*
>WS-6908 SE to WS-6922 or WS-6930 (with key illumination, with flashlight function) with an intact motherboard = 80 EUR <> with a defective motherboard = 90 EUR*
>WS-6939 to WS-6936 with an intact motherboard = 50 EUR <> with a defective motherboard = 70 EUR*
>WS-6939 to WS-7009 with an intact motherboard = 100 EUR <> with a defective mainboard = 130 EUR*
>WS-6935 to WS-7005 with an intact motherboard = 100 EUR <> with a defective mainboard = 130 EUR*

With a defective battery another 20 EUR will be added

* Plus shipping costs
Payment by Paypal or bank possible
Processing time = 1-3 days after receipt of the equipment
If interested, please e-mail to info@satlink.de
In order to calculate the total price including shipping costs : Please notify the delivery address on contact.

Greetings / Best Regards / vy 73

My upgraded WS-6908 arrived back in Menorca today and now functions exactly like a WS-6930.

Very interesting thanks, as you are in spain as well how does the sun affect your reading of the screen do you have the soft shield over it to stop the glare? And is it reliable?

Thanks marcoo

Yes, bright sunlight does affect the readability of the display but I guess any back-lit colour LCD panel would have the same limitation. I haven't needed to use the sunshield that's built into the soft case as I haven't used it whilst up a ladder and therefore could just shield it with my shadow. I've had the meter for just under a year now and, so far, have had no problems with it. Hopefully the new, upgraded, motherboard will turn out to be just as reliable.
All in all, I would say that, given their reasonable cost, the Satlink WS-69xx series of meters are fine for the occasional basic dish alignment tasks, which is all I use mine for. However, professional installers and enthusiastic hobbyists would probably want to splash their cash on something better.

Solly,

Unfortunately that satlinkmeters.co.uk website does not provide firmware or satellite list updates - only copies of the original software that comes with a particular meter. I know this because I bought my meter from them!!

www.satlink.de is the only company I am aware of that actively supports SatLink meters via its forum at http://satlink-forum.de/index.php/BoardList/. It isn't the easiest of forums to navigate (Google Translate is your friend!!) but, once you find the actual firmware or satellite list download page, there is usually an associated English translation. I see that the latest firmware they have for the WS-6932 is Version 2.38 dated 8 January 2014, along with various satellite lists produced either by SATLINK-Support or submitted by other forum users.

The downside is that unless you purchased a meter from them you will need to pay a one-time registration fee (25 euros in my case) in order to gain full access to the forum and download pages. See here for registration details:
