Hi,

quick query south wales sat enthusiast here abertillery area anyone got reliable data on satellites past these points 30 degrees west (hispasat) and 28 east (astra). 1 metre televes dish i.e. strong transponders needed help as i did have 33, 39, 42, east tuned in before my motor blew up and, i now got new motor... also 23.5east here is putting out a banging signal 86% but 28 e very low signal 70% on a 1 metre dish astra does this seem right ? I can post all other satellite signals from my location if any help but all others are good hispasat 80% also

Ive got a similar setup on 1m up the road from you.

42e will boom in on 11919 V 24444

43w will boom in on 12651 H 30800

Good luck, ive also posted about that dish at the school you work at.

Turksat is dead on for me I even been able to get Eastern Beam transponder on my dish which is no where near Wales, thats Al Jazzera English.

26e is also very good ive got MBC's 1-5 constantly even in rain, heard theres snow coming our way next week.

If the dish is at the same point as before I see no reason why you wont get the missing satellites when you got it aligned properly.

yeah i see no reason either i have notice tho' that astra 28.2 has quite a low signal on my motorised compared to my 45cm dish when i plug that in to my dreambox. even though I try to tweak for motor forastra i cannot seem to get a great signal 75% max when you consider i am getting that on my mini dish. I was considering getting another dish from televes cwmbran. they are doing 80 cm for £27 something to play about with. i am a bit reluctant to mess about with my motor to much as i got good swing from 30w 28e but no further as yet... 26e was hard to get last time if i remember.. so maybe my dish is not as good as yours even though it is 1m with lidl lnb on it....

Cheers Al...

For those interested, reception on a motorized 90cm dish:

I receive (west) with good signals:
61W,58W,45W,43W,34W,31.5W,30W,27.5W,24.5W,22W,18W,15W,12.5W,8W,7W,5W,1W

(no amos at all, 11W poor and occasionally had 20W, no 0.8 thor's just 1W intelsat 10-02))

I receive (east) with good signals
4.6E,5E,7E,10E,;13E,16E,19E,21.5E,23.5E,26E,28.2E,28.5E,30.5E,33E,36E,39E,40E,42E,45E,53E,57E,62E,68.5E
30.5E and 62E are rather weak and did not try inclined optus 31.5E or afristar 21E
all this on 1 HH rotor ! (probably would get 72E and 75E too but rotor stops at 68.5E) :)

location 2.5E 42.5N

are there any others out there i might try to catch ?

i can send best received transponderdata for each sat to those who want it

ive managed to get 30 west to 28.8 east but im wanting to now get turksat and im stuck lol.

i live in the north east of england, now somebody from grimsby has picked it up with a 72cm and somebody from blackpool has with a 90cm and im roughly inbetween, well more towards grimsby actually.

When i scan with usals it doesnt go to 42east i can hear it turning west once i put usals on when im on astra 2.

any ideas on how i can pick this up? i can type in the transponder but im unsure which one to type in, i have tried multiple ones people have suggested and none of them work, surely i should be able to get some sort of signal. should i try some of the sats between them 2 which my 80cm can pick up first to get an idea? if so which ones and what transponders do i need to use?

again my location is as it says to the left, north east england

any help apprechiated

thanks

Hi,

First check if your East limit is not set blocking your rotor ('disable limits')

Strongest TP for me on Turksat is the 11804MHz-24446V dreamtv TP (Perpignan, France)

Remember that the Horizontal TP's are very difficult to catch while they are on the east-beam so first try to lock to the vertical one.

If you receive the 36E Eutelsat sat and the 39E Hellas the turkish one is about the same 'visual distance' further (3 degrees)

info: I get Dream TV with a >85% signal on my 90cm dish (2.6E,42.6E)

Once you cracked this, try to catch the express A1R (40E) and its Uzbek TP 11098MHz-4000H which should be feasible if you get the turkish ones (80% sig here)

Greetings from Perpignan

Serge ;)

I forgot to specify the useless one on my reception list :

61W - Amazonas

12563-27000V very strong 'data?'-signal

(comes in at 84%) 24/24 7/7

it's a good signal to point out your dish to the west, nothing more.

I think this is some kind of maintance link from the sat to EADS (based in Toulouse) from the guys who put this sat into orbit.(just a hunch)
Maintaining such a link costs energy so there must be a use for this signal but i know of no way to decode it, would be a nice HOKA Code job to try and decypher the data. (HOKA is a radio-amateur HAM software/hardware tool used to decypher several radio formats (fax-morse-rtty-acars etc) (but at 3000 US$ not for everyones - nor mine - purse)

still doesnt work on turksat, i cannot get eutel either as nothing seems to be working but yet when the guy came round to install it he got the satellites in a flash.

I can currently get up to 28.8 east, anything after that i dont know, i have had a few in the 70's after 28.8 east in signal strength but its never managed to lock on.

am i right in persuming on my dreambox i just select position and the the satellite i want. I then use this: 11804MHz-24446V, and then do a scan?

when i do that and move to east from astra 2 i never get anything, as for eutel at 36 east and the other 1 at 39 east i get no joy, nothing but as i say ive had a few signals in the 70s past astra2.

anymore help? im not sure if the positions are automatically stored in the motor but im not sure what vertical and horizontal to type in.

I opened that transponder zip file somebody included and it just showed a 4 digit number for the polorization on 39east so i couldnt use that as a marker, im confused here as im new to all this frequency stuff

Rehi,

First you could maybe try to use disecq instead of usals which is easier to install as you can fine tune each satelitte hand by hand.
(as long as you don't have over 50 sat positions i would do this as the recommended way, takes a little more time to set up but the result is nicer i find).

Set up your dish pointing to your latitude (example : if you live 3°W, set up the O-mark on your rotor when the rotor is at 3W, not when it points straight south).
So maybe in a next reply state your latitude and longitude.
That's for the physical setup.
I'll be back after your next message.
I understand you use a DB500, please give me the image software you're using (else state me the DB version 1.08/1.09/1.10) and if you're using a usb/flash or HD-image.
***Administrator this post will be continuing with setting up dish for dreambox so maybe it needs to be moved ? ***

ive already got the satellites, its just the 1 satellite im after (turksat 42 east)

my dreambox has only been set up for 5days so its all original, im using version 1.09 and im not using any flash.

Ive tried scanning manually and not found turksat.

im on longitude and latitude 52,000 and 1,000 i think but i cannot clarify that as cannot find it in the receiver settings again

OK 1 W that is the location you're at.
It means that if you go to -setup-motor-goto O it should point right at intelsat 10-02 (or the position also known as thor 2-3) the three sats are there.
If you would go to manual scan and input 11189MHz-V-2142 auto you should find the channel named 'EDUSAT'.
If you would do a search (blue button) of this satellite using the 1W Transponder list it will generate all the receivable channels for this sat. and store them.
Depending if you use disecq you would store the satelite position in your rotor as reference position 8 (disecq standard) (in disecq you store each sat position in a memory location, 1= astra 19.2, 2= hotbird, 3=turksat!, 4=sirius etc. we'll go over the list later)
If using USALS you would store this position as the reference 'O' position. (in USALS this is the only stored position, the rotor keeps track 'counting' how far east and west you go)
Rest will follow tomorrow when sunlight is back !
Greetz, Serge
