scanning problem

Hi i am new to satellite systems and this site so apologise if this is the wrong section to ask this question.I have a Skyline (Philex) HDSR 400 satellite box which i purchased secondhand .but no matter what satellite i use to scan for channels the scanning freezes on 12.599ghz (v).The only time it will complete a full scan is if a change the LNB power from on to 19 volts.Does anyone knoe what the problem is and how to rectify it also will continuously using 19 volts do any damage to the LNB or the box?.Any help for a novice would be greatly appreciated.Regards and thanks.Dorian.
 
Difficult to think what may be causing the problem other than the receiver being faulty, the LNB voltage needs to switch between 13 and 18 volts for changing polarity during scans. Have you tried doing a factory reset on the receiver?
 
Hi thanks for the reply.Yes ive done a factory reset and scanned several times but unfortunately it never gets past 12.599 (v). 0n ASTRA2ABDEURO i get a good choice of channels before it freezes but unfortunately the 5. 5 usa etc and that group are missing due to the scan being incomplete, if i could get these as well as the channels ive got i wouldnt be too bothered about any others. like i said if i set the lnb power to 19 volts the scan completes but then other channels dissapear.I only paid £20 for the box so wouldnt be surprised if it was faulty.I have tried other sat boxes with the dish and LNB setup and all is fine but unfortunately they dont have the record to usb falcility.Regards and .Dorian
 
The HDSR 400 is at fault. It's actually somewhere down the line a Televes clone and have had several will the same symptoms ;)

I doubt there is a fix ............. but don't give up on getting further replies: Most Members only look in occasionally, so a couple of weeks is the time after which you can assume nobody has got a positive response to give.
 
Hi ive found a fix by myself by going into the settings and adding transponder 10964 and scanning which has found the 5 series channels i wanted which added to the channels which the original scan found before freezing is the full amount.It would seem a complete novice like myself now knows more about satellite problems than the so called experts.Regards and thanks.
 
Hey everyone , sorry to dig up an old thread , got one of these receivers , was working fine till today until i have edited a transponder from Turksat , all of the sudden the whole menu's went Chinese and there in no option to change the language anymore . I think i need a software upgrade but can't find it anywhere . Any ideas ?

Factory reset won't work either as it wont accept any of the known PIN's i tried .

I don't really know what that means , sorry .

I have found out that there is a firmware update HDSR400.upd , but the official website has a broken link to it . I'll keep searching .
 
I come to the conclusion that it's clone of a Labgear HDSR260 , Aldi HD and SLX HD box but i cannot find a software download anywhere for either of them .
 
I tried a search, for the Skyline (Philex) HDSR 400, and found the same problem, all the support seems to have expired, even on the official sites.
I suggest you try old satellite forums, and see if anyone has the original firmware, but given that this seems to be a cheap, old, receiver, it might not even be worth trying to repair it, but instead buy a newer, better, receiver.
 
Wow , that is customer service , I have received an email with a England_2010_0709_TEV.upd file to try from Philex .

Unfortunately it doesn't work , the receiver sees the File but it will not initiate the Loading process , when i press OK on it nothing happens . I have tried 3 different USB sticks .

Any other way of force loading the software ? Is there a Hard Reset procedure ? Or at least a Master PIN code so i can try to reset it ?

It is very strange as the box was solid until yesterday , power supply is good on it and tuner very sensitive .

I am stumped .

Probably best for the bin .
 
Try contacting their customer support, again, explain the problem, and see if there is a recovery file.
Also check if there is a RS 232 Com connection, on the rear of the receiver.
