Scratched Penta 85 dish

Hi guys,

Following my earlier thread, I have obtained a Penta 85 dish in red-brick colour to match the wall of the apartment. Unfortunately, the only dish HDShop had in stock was a steel one and while it was in my boot, various bracketry and such scratched the dish in the corner to the point where bare metal is visible (1 inch long). I know it won't really affect reception but I am worried about rust. What can I use to patch that bit up while I have the dish on the ground?

That's a shame, won't a touch of metallic paint to match the colour be okay.
 
Metallic paint would be the last thing on my mind! It would play havoc with signal reflection... even though it's only a small patch.

I was thinking something along the lines of a laquer of some kind...
 
hello,
unless the dish is deformed the scatch will not couse a problem.

rust is another thing
use some tuchup paint to fill in the scratch to match the color to hide the scratch.
if you need red brich to hide the dish then use a red color close to the brick color.
non matalic paint without metal flakes.
unless the dish is grosely deformed were the scratch there should not be any problem.

There's no physical damage at all other than a little scratch. Rust was my main concern. So, any non-metallic touch up paint will do?
 
As the scratch is only small, the paint shouldn't cause problems, alternative a matt type :-rofl2
 
To be frank, the chances of rust causing problems in anything but the distant future are small and if it were me my concern would be largely cosmetic: To which end, a simple and inexpensive solution might be some lipstick.

Not only should you be able to get something close in colour, but it would be easy to apply and the wax content should provide adequate protection against water. If you got a dedicated lippy for the purpose, instead of borrowing one from a lady, you could re-apply as necessary.

Thanks - that's exactly what I got! Perfect colour match and only used a dab of it from the top of the lid...

Hope it stops snowing now, so I can put the thing up tomorrow...

............. my ingenious, yet deftly ignored, "thinking outside the box" solution at Post #7.
 
I imagine the real Captain Jack would always have a compact with lippy somewhere on his person.
