Hello to all. I hope someone can help me. I have a Star Track 2014 HD box with motorised dish. It was set up by an installer 3 years ago who is no longer interested as I am not buying his over priced subscription. I am doing a scan to see what TV is being picked up and though I can connect to un encrypted TV, when I do a scan the result finds radio stations but no TV stations at all. I must be doing something wrong but cant figure out what it is and I can find a forum dedicated to Star Track receivers where anyone answers. Please can anyone advise?

If you are getting the radio channels thaen you must be getting the tv channels as well - they are almost always transmitted along with the tv services.

See if there is a tv/radio button on the remote.

I´m not familiar with that box, but also suspect, along with AS, that you have pressed the radio/tv button on the remote, so after the scan you only get the radio channels in the list of services after the scan. If all else fails, using the menu options try a factory reset, but make sure you make a note of the Long and Lat settings on the box before hand.
Better still, find the radio/tv button on the remote because if you are not too sure about how the sat system works you could end up with nothing.

You have answered your own query.

You lock FTA channels but not the encrypted which your supplier has """ over priced """"

If I read your query correct?

I agree with skomedal, you were getting and able to view encrypted TV channels by paying a subscription which you no longer want to pay hence you are now getting unencrypted TV channels, what did you expect to get?

No my friend you misunderstand, maybe I didn't explain well enough. I can watch TV channels, I can listen to radio but there are some TV channels I should have that are missing. The person I have bought the service from (who cant help with this box) tells me I might need to do a rescan to pick up the missing channels. When I do a rescan the results are like-TV services found 0. Radio services 20. New radio services found 3.
I must be doing something wrong.

You don't know what your talking about. I have paid someone else for services. What does the TV channel scan showing zero have to do with what I have paid for or not? The services you have paid for only unencrypts the channels found in the scan. There are many channels you don't have to pay which I can watch but the scan still shows zero so what are you talking about?

Please do not start having a go at me for your inability to explain yourself, I do know what I am talking about unfortunately it sounds like you do not know how your system works, which satellite are you scanning? what channels are you expecting to get? Name one

Have you checked sites like kingofsat, or flysat, to see if the channels have changed frequencies, or even ceased broadcasting?
Can you please post more details, as Topper requested, regarding the satellites you're scanning, and the channel details, name, frequency, polarity, S/R (Symbol Rate), etc. so that we might check for ourselves.
Also check if there is a limit, to the number of channels your receiver can store, as a nearly full channel list can cause this kind of problem.

OK, going back to my earlier post, are you able to see, and if needs be reset the long and lat of your position in the set up menu of the box?
If you are, make a note of them and do a factory reset / default and start again. This will clear the box memory and allow you to re-scan correctly, I hope!

I disagree with both Skomedal and Topper on this one. If you are doing a scan without previously deleting your existing channel list the box is almost certainly reporting that it has found 0 TV channels because it has not found any new channels NOT that it has not found any TV channels at all. Doing a scan on most reveivers without previously deleting your channels usually only reports the number of new channels found.

If there are FTA channels that you reckon you should be able to view then it sounds as though the transponder database in the receiver is out of date and before scanning needs those transponders adding - there should be a menu option for this and you will need to check the stored list of transponders with a site like Astra 2E/2F/2G at 28.2°E - LyngSat

You need to do a blind scan. Freeview channels have moved a dozen times in 3 years and the transponder list is probably out of date. If you dont have that function then you will have to manually add the transponders on the remote then scan.

A little more explanation has now been given but I still think 'service scan' has no relation to what you and he were talking about and you have taken one line and made an assumption.

And still nobody knows what satellites you are scanning or what channels you are receiving and what channels you are not receiving, not very helpful to anyone remotely diagnosing a problem on an unknown receiver

Its the nature of forums that some people asking for help do not put enough information, or ask silly questions or other. This could be because they are unsure what question they should be asking, assume people will know what they are asking with the information they have supplied or just need a pointer as to where they should be asking there question. Its also the nature of forums that some people answering give a totally irrelevant answer as they havent read and understood the question being asked (could be the posters fault), or they havent read the thread in full, or may give solutions that dont/wont work.
Could be a mixture of each here but I still look at my original post and think it was clear I was talking about scan results. I did make a mistake in my typing and it should have read '..I cant find a forum dedicated to Star Track'.

Anyway, I have took some pictures to demonstrate my problems.

I can watch TV and listen to radio from 28.2E Astra as per the pictures. However, if I do a scan I get 0 TV services found.
Now I have a motorised dish collecting about 15 satellites of which I use 3 I think (13.0E Hotbirds and 19.2E Astra). Which ever satellite I scan gives the same 0 TV services found search though I can watch some channels on that satellite. If the scan settings were right wouldnt the channels I can watch show among the results?

Dave thanks for your reply but the radio scan shows 0 new channels but still reports the radios found. Topper is correct that I do not know enough about my system or any other satellite system, as I said before someone installed it for me (he was a rip off) -and I am trying to understand it with a rubbish manual. I'm giving serious consideration to buying a Technomate or Dreambox as there seems to be more support.

I'm out on the road at the moment and the iPhone screen is to small to see the pics. Think some misunderstandings have been made. We are here to help you, as all new and existing members.
May I suggest, quoting Julie Andrews, we start at the very beginning , ABC!
Home in about 30 mins, perhaps we can all start again then!

I agree with Milamber, lets start afresh firstly having had a quick read on-line it seems this stb has been commonly used for supplying illegal subscriptions TV services and there are numerous variations on the specification as per here
It could very well be the situation that many of the standard functions have deliberately been disabled to stop tinkering, are there any more specific details of the model number in view of the number of variations on that site?

As I have a receiver with exact same menus (aka same motherboard), may be able to help (except usals) if no solution found. As suggested earlier, in 'Search Mode' set it to do a 'Blind' and see what happens.

edit: picture after a short moment into blind scan on astra 19e, if everything is connected and the dish is pointed at 'something' it should spit out results quickly (ps: choose to scan FTA Only in Search Type)

OK, here we go ( without the music that we have all heard once or twice a year at Christmas and / or Easter for the last 40 years! )
4wd, can you get the box and remote out in case we need to do a " step by step " set up via the menu.
Westindieman, can you have a look through the menus to see if you can find the Usals settings, we may need to know these, ie, Long and Lat ( your exact postion on the planet ) in case we need to do a full factory reset. Also, if you can find any information regarding model number and software version, this will also help.
Topper, what did you glean from " here " anything useful?

I have also come across boxes in the past that " lie " when scanning, that state no services found, when what they mean is no new services found. As per dave´s post.

All, time to re-think, methinks:-ohcrap
