June 29 brings extremely interesting information for those interested in 8K tests. The SES operator, which in the second half of May carried out trials in 8K resolution from the satellite Astra 3B (23.5 ° E) on the occasion of SES Industry Days in Luxembourg - is again conducting trials at 8K. This time they are implemented from the position of 28.2 ° E, but more importantly - within them, materials prepared by the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) are broadcast.
For the purposes of the issue, an unused 40 Astra 2E satellite (28.2 ° E) satellite transponder was activated, operating in the European bundle, with the following parameters:
Astra 2E (28.2 ° E)
tp. 40
frequency: 12,480 GHz
polarization: V (vertical)
SR: 30000 ksymb / s
FEC: 3/4
DVB-S2 / 16APSK
Roll-off: 0.2
Pilot S2: Active
The transponder in this configuration offers a net rate of approx. 86.719 Mbit / s. The signal in Poland is quite strong, although weaker than it was when testing with 23.5 ° E. The use of 16APSK modulation forces to ensure a higher level of signal-to-noise ratio than for classic DTH platforms (eg Sky, emitted from the same satellite position). It must be over 10.21 dB.
The configuration of the broadcast is the same as it was in May, again it is a DVB-IP stream, after trying to search on a regular receiver we will get an unnamed service
ID: - (missing)
PID Date: 3000
SID: 100
PID PMT: 4000
After filtering it, we will get another transport stream from video in HEVC, without sound.
ID: - (missing)
PID V: 1023 (HEVC / UHD 8k)
PID A: - ()
PID PCR: 1023
SID: 1
PMT PID: 255
Image quality: 7680x4320, 16: 9, up to 81 Mbit / s
The five-minute recording after filtering took about 1.73 GB. Similarly to previous tests, the bit rate changes with high dynamics from 0.5 Mbit / s to over 81 Mbit / s, and as a result the amount of data may be smaller.
The frame from the test transmission in 8K implemented from 28.2 ° E
After clicking, you can download the lossless screen shot in full quality (7680x4320), but be warned that it takes 79 MB!
The editors' great joy was the fact that this time, as part of experiments, materials in 8K resolution were broadcast by the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), in the material under the English name of PSNC.
It seems that these are the materials mentioned during the previous 8K tests (then they could not be observed) from the PSCC - short film impressions realized in the Poznań Palm House and in the PSNC studio: Palmhouse 8K and Magda 8K.
This is the title of the Polish test accent mentioned in the title, the SES satellite operator is responsible for the broadcast.
