Setting Correct Dish Elevation

Hi i know there are numerous topics on the subject but nothing makes sense i am putting in the correct lattitude settings on the motor 53.7992 so basically im setting the lattitude to just under 54 on the markings at the side of the motor,so i think i have done that correctly
Now onto the dish elevation,i had my dish pointing at 28.2 and used the setting from dishpointer.com of 22.3 degrees but the signal was quite low so i bought a sat finder to get the strongest possible signal,so now the dish elevation is at around 28 degrees for the strongest signal but now signal is weaker on other satallites,someone please help as im ready to pull my hair our,if anyone can give me step by step instructions i would be very gratefull like at where to point the dish in the first place and which elevation setting to set dish at
Also my bracket the dish sits on is perfectly flush so that counts that out and im in blackpool uk
 
Hi, you need to set up the motor on your reference satellite 1°W or 5°W. The dish elevation will depend on what motor you have in particular the angle of stub arm cranked forward. As a starting point place the dish slightly up as most dish EL scales are inaccurate. Take a browse at the dish set up guides in this section.

Take some photos of the motor settings and the dish and motor together, then upload them.

Make sure you are setting your latitude on the motor latitude scale and not the elevation scale, then pretty much ignore the elevation scale on the dish bracket, using your little meter to setup on 5 West as Paul suggests. You will need to offset the motor slightly though, by a couple of degrees, which may be straightforward if you have USALS or GoToX on your receiver, but if you have a DM500 as per your profile, you might have to drive it manually, by sending the dish a degree or so West on your motor scale.

If you follow the guides mentioned at the top of Paul's signature, you should be successful.
