Ah! Thanks Jeallen01. I did not know about the skew. I can see from the sat finder phone app that Hotbird is higher in the sky that astra1. My outer head is well higher than the inner one.
"..well higher.." is probably too much - about 7-10 degrees skew should be more like it!

Does this look familiar?

"Go to settings and select the channel.
Select channel installation mode.
Go to General Satellite.
Select channels and go to Satellite Re-scan.
Go to Antenna Type and select DiSEqC 1.0.
Select satellite from the list.
Go to satellite Selection and select a satellite from the list.
Select LNB Configuration from the Satellite Detail menu.
If the TV is connected directly to the satellite without a switchboard, the installation can be completed by Selecting “One.”
Go to DiSEqC port and select DiSEqC A.
Go back to the Satellite Detail menu, select scan type and select Next.
Wait a few minutes until the channel scanning is complete."
Yes, it looks familiar Ozumo. You only scan once the sat finder has found a signal. Is that right?

If I disconnect the cable from the monobloc to the sat finder meter the sat finder meter is still buzzing away and the light is on. Should that be the case?

Yes. As for the signal finder turn down the gain knob to lower the noise, too high and it will just sing to itself if even if there is no signal.

Yes, I had it on a lower setting number 4.

@ozumo : is not "GRUNDIG" not just a "bought & sold" brandname nowadays - so one model "Grundig" may be nothing like another??
PS: I have a "soft spot" for the Grundig brandname because my very first colour TV was a 16" Grundig portable in the early 1980's - and I had a lot fun when surreptitiously remotely changing the channels whilst others were watching it!:-rofl2. Was quite sad when I found that it had become just a "bought & sold brand" (like "Bush" and so on)!

I understand from these posts I just need to configure the hotbird lnb to port A only? (which I have done) . Does that mean that that is all is required to be done and that once one of the head's get a signal the other head hopefully would pickup astra1 19.2 as it's just six degrees difference?
Are we sure 13E is port A, and 19E is port B with this monoblock? Or is it vice versa?
Till we've made that sure/tested, I wouldn't count on it.

Hello A33
I was trying to get the monoblock getting both lnb's connected to two satellites. I can't remember which one had the signal now.

What I did was I went into the satellite re-scan option, chose "more", then diseqc 1.0, then hotbird and chose under the lnb diseqc port option "DiSEqC A".

Then I went again back into the satellite re-scan option, chose more, then diseqc 1.1, then chose ASTRA1 19.2E, and under the lnb configuration for Port chose either "disable" or "uncommit 1". I can't remember which so currently trying both right now.
That is a pity. Have you left the dish elevation unchanged (I hope so!), or have you changed that as well?

We need to get back to get a (any!) signal, and go from there (then determine which satellite, which head, which diseqc port).
In that phase, it isn't really important what diseqc setting you have, I would say.
The skew issue, however, might be important to find a satellite signal. For Portugal, that would be about -25 degrees, so when looking into the dish, rotate the monoblock between 20 an 30 degrees clockwise!

The satellite finder needs to show light, as a sign that it receives power.
The beep indicates signal: however, when receiving NOTHING, you should turn the sensitivity knob so that you have a just slight beep. When you change the dish setting, and the beep gets stronger, you might get to where a satellite is. In that case, reduce the sensitivity (make the beep less loud), and try to adjust the dish to a even louder beep; and so on.
I hope you are still on the same elevation, so that you might get the same signal as before, just by rotating the dish around the pole.

Is this procedure clear to you?

Am I supposed to configure for astra1 too? The video demonstrates doing it for one satellite. Sorry for dragging this out.

Yes, you need to change one of the DiSEqC 1.0 satellites to 19.2°E and assign position A or B to it.

Absolutely - I've usually pointed a fixed dish at the strongest sat in the arc of interest and tune that in, and so then I had an established reference point sat in that arc. Then, using a bit of the "experience" gained over some years, I had a good idea of where sats just a few degrees E or W of that one should be found, and would then progress gradually in the desired direction until I was able to tune in the new wanted sat.

I also used a similar approach when setting up multiple LNBs on fixed dishes - but, of course, taking into account the "mirror effect" for the LNBs either side of the feedarm - and that worked quite well :)

PS: regarding the required skew angle: apologies if I mislead anyone but I'd forgotten to take into account that the OP is in Portugal, not the UK:rolleyes:.

Hello A33

Yes I changed the elevation too. I did mark in chalk on the ground the direction. I understand what to do with regard finding the signal as I managed to do it before. Learnt a few more things anyway today. It was not a complete failure. I will have another go tomorrow. Thank you for taking the time to help me.

So, when you have a signal again:
- Note which head receives it: left or right (when looking into the dish), and note: head above the arm or the sidecar head;
- which satellite is the receiver tuned to at that moment; and with which which diseqc ports defined.
Only after determining that, we can look for which channels you receive, and what is the actual satellite that you landed on;
and after that determine further steps.

Good luck!,
A33

Putting a long stick/cane in the ground, or on an adjacent shed/fence, is another version of that - the longer the better, to get it as high in the sky as possible and thus more easily seen when pointing the dish.

Yes, you need to change one of the DiSEqC 1.0 satellites to 19.2°E and assign position A or B to it.
Done it! So under Satellite Manual Tuning screen I have displayed Astra1 19.2E on and Hotbird 13.0E on.

I have to go back into the satellite re-scan screen to see the lnb assignments as its greyed out in the Manual Tuning screen. Diseqc Port has Diseqc A assigned to hotbird and astra1 has diseqc B under its port setting.
