Should I get a 1m dish for eastern sats?

My 1.2m Channel Master is current covering a range of between 50W to around 46E. However, with the house in the way, I only get partial illumination on everything from around 10E. Some satellites are weak enough to not be receivable at all, such as 26E and I even lose signal on 28E in heavy rain. 46E is very weak and I get nothing beyond that.

I can put a dish on the eastern side of the house, which will get me everything between 13E and 68.5E. I still have all the gear to put my Penta 85 back on but it's not much fun on a dish that size. I am thinking of a Gibby 1m one but as the dish will be in relative plain view to my immediate neighbours, I want to minimise the "eye sore" risk.

Additionally, I am not sure what interesting things I'll be getting off there. 46E has a number of Russki channels but I get most of them on 11W in C-band. There's not that much on 53E left and 55E seems too weak to bother with, unless I count the strong-ish multi-stream transponders... but without a PC card, they are useless to me.

So, is it even worth it? Not sure... and we might be moving next year anyway...

Yes, I can. I would then have a coverage of 50W (nothing there now) to 68.5E. Combined that is. I'd love to point a 1.2m beyond 46E.

I have the same issue with Fibo at my parents' place. It only really sees up to 47.5E. Beyond that, there are trees/houses in the way.

Certainly Some transponders at 68E are do-able on a TD88 (with fading effect) ...but not much to be had other than bulk GOD TV..
But it can be done easily if of course you have Direct Line of Sight.

There are a few things at 45W, aren't there? Assuming you don't want to go to C-band...
 
45W? Only two transponders in Ku. C band there is far too weak for my miserable 1.2m dish. 50W was an easy enough catch in C, until AITs moved to 53W and the fence is in the way of that.
 
CJ, I can watch about 90E - 40.5W. Never ever watched any single programme from area 36E - 90E but The consciousness that I can easily watch, if i want to is most important issue. Not to mention about new channels there! Every single new found makes me sooo happy that sure it is worth to see these eastern sats.
 
CJ, this quest for more and bigger can go on forever. I've got 57E to 58W C-band and Ku, but rarely, if ever, watch anything that isn't between 28E and 7W in Ku. There's Prima TV on 45E for a few movies in SD, and similar on 42E, but apart from that I can't think of anything worth watching, let alone putting up a dish specially.
 
I have a motorized 78cm sitting at the end of the garden, I can see from 57E to 30W with it, although the trees (my trees) are going to need a trim if I want to continue seeing past about 22W. I rarely watch anything not on 28.2E or 19.2E, but I'm still quietly trying to work out what size I can get away with replacing it with without annoying a) my wife b) the neighbours. The garden backs out onto a field and the road is some distance away and painted green (like the existing one) it would barely be visible. I think I can get away with a 1.2m without too much trouble. I'd probably never watch the additional channels I could pull in with this and so in absolute terms it isn't worth it at all. I'd have a lot of fun setting it up and fiddling with it though - that is justification in itself :)
 
Can easily get 42e and 45e on my setup as they are quite strong. 25.5e I can get at my parents' place on the Fibo and steam to myself.

Yes, the quest for bigger and better will never stop. Think I'll wait a while until my short to mid-term plans are in place.

Er... fairly high. The top of the dish is already 2.5m from the ground and I would guess it would need to go up by at least 1m for stable reception of everything up to 46E and higher for anything beyond that.

As you need from my avatar, the top of the dish is already overlooking the neighbour's fence, so very reluctant to put it further up.

Yes, I could do that. Raising it would also mean more exposure to winds, which we had plenty of last year. As the house is rented and it's sitting on a bunch of kerbs, I am not comfortable enough with my stand!

But that is an option worth considering!
