Sorry to start a new thread, but I posted this in the sticky above and noone seems to have noticed :)

Location - Gran Canaria.

I have just moved the HD box from home (where it was was connected to the big dish) down to the other house where it is connected to an 80cm dish. There was some trouble pairing the card to the box so Sky told me to do a full system reset which cleared the EPG and Planner.

I have set the default TP to 11973 V (which is the ITV transponder on 2B South). I am able to receive all the programming but the EPG has failed to populate (after over a week).

I am going to try 12.207 V as suggested by the OP in the sticky post, but in the meantime can anyone advise the following :-

  • if the HD EPG data is only carried on certain TPs
  • explain how the default TP relates to the mechanism of populating the HD EPG (if at all)
  • offer any explanation as to why all the entries on my EPG just say "No programme information available"

Thanks.

I have to use 11778 V to update the EPG on DVBViewer

I think the HD box works like the other sky boxes.

The main 7 day epg is on 11778, and the HD box will populate the EPG when it gets a sniff of this. Which is unlikely on oyur 80cm dish! So you will not get a full 7 day EPG.

Yet all other frequencies carry a limited amount of EPG data, like programe name, times and programme information for the programme you are actually watching. This data is very limited, available not for 6 or 7 days but in "blocks" like from 6am, 12pm, 6pm, 12am only. The actual programme information, for "future programmes" is not available on these other frequencies, hence your "no programme information" message,.

This limited amount of data on every transponder is enough to get any sky box booting up and working if you cannot automatically get 11778.

As far as i know, it makes no difference what default transponder you use - as long as you can actually receive that frquency, as they all carry the same EPG data, so makes no difference if you use 12207, 11973, 11954H, or any other south beam freuqency.

I think when the HD EPG was first introduced it was on another frequency, other than 11778, also for a while. It was on kingosat as IEPG data, and there were about 2 frequencies with this data, but now there is only one.

Hi from the northwest ( of Spain ). Just a thought on your HD box. Are you using it in single feed mode as I do here as my dish isn't really big enough and dual feed LNBs don't seem as sensitive as single ones? Anyway, if you are, maybe the full reset has returned it to normal dual feed mode, which would explain the missing EPG. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious!

I got a chance to go down to the other house today and set the default TP to 12.207 V. The EPG populated within a few seconds

Seems to be the one to choose for anyone in a similar situation.

BTW - I am not in single feed mode. The installation is only intended to pull in ASTRA 2A/B South beams and EuroBird Fixed. In this scenario there is absolutely no reason to make such a compromise.

wonder if it has anything to do with 11973 being an "itv transponder" and 12207 is a "sky transponder"...
does beg the question as to do normal and sky+ boxes not populate the full 7 day EPG when the default is changed to 12207...makes you wonder if there is a "hidden" HD EPG datastream in there....

although, for information, I have just popped a skyhd box on a 60cm dish - which i know cannot get 11778, and changed the default trp to 12207 and it has not populated the EPG past 6pm today! and it did not either on 12129, 11954h, 11973! popped it onto a 80cm dish, which i knw can get 11778 at the moment, and the whle 7 days EPG just populated! which says to me that the 7 days HD epg is only on one frequency!
weird

With regard to Sky HD single feed or dual feed, I had the best of both worlds in the summer by using my main 1,5m dish as usual, and a second smaller 1,2m offset Televés for the second input. Both dishes had Inverto Black Ultra LNBs, and I was able to record most channels while watching most others. This was far better than having a dual LNB on one dish. I then started to miss the English and French channels on Badr 26º, so the Televés dish was realigned once again, hence my current single feed mode on Sky. One query I do have is whether I should have received Sky Anytime or is it on a difficult Northbeam Transponder, or limited by subsciption level?

This is very bad news. I have now noticed that I am only getting one days EPG data and that is not reliable. It is odd because SD boxes do not have this problem.

Unless anyone can suggest some "magic" I am going to have to decommission the HD box and put in an ordinary SKY+ box instead :-(

Are you sure - i get the same results - no matter if I try an SD or HD box...ie about 6 to 12 hours data only - whan I am unable to get 11778...

I am not sure. I am in UK until the new year so I can't test it now.

Seems like a waste of resources to me, how was it better?

Why didn't you just add a second LNB on the 1.5m for 26ºE?

I have made some progress on this.

Today I changed the box over to "Single feed mode". The theory being that it would stop looking for 11778 and download the limited EPG info from the current TP. This worked - there is now approximately 12 hours of EPG data for all channels. Previously there was no EPG data in the planner at all.

But there is more .... the box does have two feeds and I discovered that I could still record two different channels at once successfully. In my experiment I recorded Sky News (vertical TP) and BBC News (horizontal TP) simultaneously - as they have different polarisation they must have been recording from different feeds.

I am not sure if series links are going to work - a little more experimentation is required.

I can confirm that series links do not work in this configuration when there is no reception of 11778. However I now have a useful system that seems to work normally but with the following restrictions....

> No series links
> ~12 hour EPG only
> No Anytime (normal in single feed mode)

I have just discovered that you also need to turn OFF "Auto Standby" and avoid manually putting the box in standby as the limited EPG does not update when the box is in standby.

Just noticed this thread, and think it applies to my problem. Around the end of November,my Sky HD Planner stopped showing a full 7 days worth of programmes, woudlnt series link, and receive Anytime. Some channels show 'no signal' and then work after about 10 seconds. I'm in The Canaries, and have a 2.4m dish. I've always had the TP set to 11.778 and never had this problem before. Failed recordings on occasion, but nothing too bad. Then on Feb 1st, the day the new channel format launched, everything worked fine. For 1 day only, now its back to not working. When I put 11.778 into TP it dosent get the signal and I lose everything. I'd imagine that its probably a problem with the dish alignment or lnb but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any suggestions?

For anyone with fringe reception in a warm country it is always worth checking if spiders have nested in the feed horn of the lnb before doing anything that will cost money

Interesting .. we will be upgrading this year from 1 1.1m to a 2.4m dish - If I can't get 11.778 will have to look at a larger dish!!
