Hi,

I try to findout weeks ago how can I get sky card (uk) with HD package without sky hd box, but I can't find the right answer.
Why?
I have my own box (opticum 9500HD 2ci 2cx e plus) with motorised dish. I don't want to get one more dish on my wall.
Thanks for the help!

Hi, I got 2 Sky HD subs in July 08 without having to buy a box from Sky, I explained to them that I had bought 2 unsusidised HD boxes from a retailer as I did not want to plug the boxes into the phone socket, which I would have had to do if I bought them from Sky at the discount price.

They did take a day or 2 to decide but they did send them. There are plenty of HD boxes for sale second hand and if it was not possible to get cards for them then they would be virtually worthless so I assume that its still the case that they will send you a card. You will need some sort of skybox to iniaiate the card though.
Even a non HD box will do it

Big thanks for your answer!

I just read this:
http://www.satellites.co.uk/satelli...3620-sky-hd-upgrade-non-sky-supplied-box.html

The main point:
-Sky want to know your unsusidised HD box details (serial number)
-Time after time you have to put back your sky card to the sky box and connect to the phone line
So, this is not true?
I have a normal skybox, and the card (blue), I canceled my contract about 18 months ago.I'm not sure, but I give a try, call the sky ask for Hd pocket with my old card.

They have never contacted me once yet

Buy a freesat from sky card (£20) use your normal skybox to activate the card, no phone line needed, use the card in your other box and this will give you FTA HD programmes. Works with DM8000 and you can record.
I recently bought a sky+HD Pace box secondhand with new epg installed and now use my card in that box just a phone call to Sky to change it over. I now use my Sky HD box to watch all FTA UK HD programmes which is more than a freesat box will do, just change the card from box to box.

Can you record discovery Hd with this card+DM8000?

I think you can record any channel you can watch on a DM8000, that is true for the Channels I can watch plus the ones using my Sky card. I only have the freesat channels so I don't know about Discorvery HD.

To record any channels on the Sky HD box requires an additional payment of £10 per month.

The best place to get an answer would be to post your question in the Dreambox DM8000 section on this forum.

AFAIK Discovery is part of the $ly package so an FTV card will not work.
