Sky+, how does it pick which tuner?

38.5ºN, 0.5ºW
How does a Sky+ box decide which tuner it uses? Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. For regular viewing it seems to switch from one tuner to the other. Is there some sort of logical process?
 
As far as I understand it, input 1 is used for viewing and recording. When you then move onto a different channel/Tp, input 2 is used.
 
On the SD Sky+ box from power up or standby Input 2 is used for recording and Input 1 for viewing. If an input is already in use then the box will automatically swap to the other input. Say you have one recording (A) for 3/4 hour and one (B) starting 1/4 hour later for one hour, when A starts (from standby) it will use Input 2, B will then use Input 1 and then if you switch the box on and start viewing after A has finished but before B has finished then your viewing will use Input 2 as Input 1 is already in use. Difficult to explain but quite simple really.
 
Ok, so the box will always choose input 1 if it is not already in use, otherwise it will choose input 2. Is that right?
 
As I understand it planned recording are always on Input 2, unless this is already in use for another recording, in which case input 1 will be used..

Watching channels will noramlly be on input 1, unless input 1 is being used for a recording due to above.

Ask a question on quantumphysics - it may be easier!!

For viewing from standby - yes. Input 2 for recordings from standby. Both with no other recordings taking place at the time.
