Hi. I have just joined and hoping to get set up at the weekend.
I have bought a cheap pre owned StarSat SR2000HD Hyper box and will use the old Sky dish/lnb that's been on the house since the 90s. My question is, what size lnb will be fitted? Also, would I need to replace it or should it work as is?
I've seen lots of different size collers on LNBs so thought I would ask
Ive lived here for about 25 years but never had an account with sky and just used freeview upto now.
Thanks in advance.

Is the dish round or oval shaped? If it is oval and an early Sky Digital minidish the LNB and it's holder may be one combined unit and they aren't easy to find these days in new condition. The one fitted might work but you won't know without trying it. It could also have a 40mm collar making replacement easy.

If the dish is round a 40mm universal LNB will most likely be correct however the Sky analogue service was broadcast from a different satellite will need realigning to 28.2°E.

A photo of the dish and LNB will help.

Thanks OZUMO.
It's an oval mesh dish, and it looks like it has a clamp holding the LNB. I will try and get a pic before it goes dark, but I am at work right now.

40mm clamping came in around the time, but not for Sky dishes of the era.

If it is from the 90's then it is almost certainly a dedicated clamp for the dish, with a specific LNB type.

No modern LNBs or clamps will fit, even with adapters unless you can bodge.

Thanks for the info Channel Hopper.
To add to my post earlier, here is a pic. I can see now the LNB isn't clamped to the arm, it's not as I remembered it in my first reply.

*Update.
It does actually work. I bought some new cable and connectors and a pair of ladders lol.

Seems its aiming around 28-31East and picks up Astra 1G
Astra 2
Eutelsat 36 a/b

Won't pick up Eurobird 1, but not sure what's available on there anyway.
I understand there will be lots of none English channels amongst all this, but I don't mind.

Like I said in earlier post, I just thought I'd see if the old dish was of any use just been sat there for over 30 years.

I still have freeview play anyway, so not actually losing out either way.

Suppose it savesxme being bored on a rainy Sunday morning.

If anybody can advise now, is there other satellites a could receive, without realigning the dish, given where its aiming?
Thanks again guys for the info so far.

At presnt according to Lyngsat, there are three satellites located at 28.2 East, what channels have you managed to find? The Satellite names in your satellite receiver are probably out of date as to where they are positioned.

You won't get more than one satellite position with a single LNB, so if you are positioned at 28.2 East, it will be mainly English Language channels originating from the UK.

Yes, in fairness there are quite a few non English language channels on there, you will receiver pretty much what's on this list, excluding the West African beam. Astra 2E/2F/2G at 28.3°E - LyngSat

Sorry I'm missing something here, you say you're getting all of the UK channels on astra 28.2 E, but you are also getting channels from 23.5 East? Are you moving the dish when doing this, or are you just doing scans on random satellites and if they scan channels you are assuming that you are on that satellite?

The dish is stationary and its a single feed lnb.
I scanned each satellite separately and found channels on each one.
I'm no tech whizz kid, so can't really tell you anymore than that.

OK, thought that was the case. Satellites will often have a similar range of frequencies, so whilst you will find channels when using the receiver to scan different ones, it's still only the one you are poining at, a common mistake though.

There's lots of Turkish Arabic and African chanells out there, I was hoping I might get one that just shows football games as is free lol

Not a lot of free football out there, although we have a thread specifically for that.

One, if not the first Sky dish for Astra 2, bolts will be seized and plastic brittle.
